Still working on building out my Night Lords Tournament list to be fairly competitive (I mean we're Chaos so that's all relative), here's what I'm looking at:

ELITE
----------
Chosen x6
-5x Plasma Guns
-Mark of Nurgle
-Aspiring Champion has Power Fist and Lightning Claw

TROOPS
----------
6x CSM's
-Mark of Nurgle

6x CSM's
-Mark of Slaanesh
-Close Combat Weapons
-Rhino (With Havoc Launcher)

FAST ATTACK
----------
Dreadclaw Assault Pod

6 Chaos Bikers
-Mark of Slaanesh
-Icon of Excess
-1 Meltagun
-Aspiring Champion has Power Lance

HEAVY SUPPORT
----------

1x ForgeFiend

1x Fire Raptor Gunship
-Malefic Ammunition (Grants rending)

3x Obliterators
-Mark or Nurgle

I'd appreciate any feedback or comments!

Who is your chaos lord going to be attached to? You need the same mark to attach him to a unit. All of your units are mon or mos, but your lord is mok.

Help me, Rhonda. HA!

I'm guessing the chosen go in the drop Pod? I get that their Champion will be a beast in challenges, but I envision chosen dropping, destroying a unit, and then being mopped up, without a chance of him seeing CC.

You could swap the pod and the rhino crew and make your chosen CC beasts (maybe MoK?), while giving plasma/combi-plas to your regular CSM.

Any reason for MoS on the CSM?

Another idea... Drop the chosen, bump the MoN CSM to 10+ with drop pod and 3 plas.

Last idea... drop the black mace. On DP its awesome, on everything else it seems overpriced.

Forgive me if I'm missing a big piece of synergy from spells or Night Lords etc, but I feel like your troops aren't doing much more then what some cultist can do for 1/2 the price.

I had intended to attach him to the CSM Bikers, but had completely missed the rule that he had to have the same Mark. Would you suggest making the Bikers MoK, or turning the lord to MoS?

Ironically that's exactly how I saw them being used. The PF and LC were kind ofjust a backup plan, though since you've pointed it out, that does seem rather pricey...

I was having a substantial amount of trouble getting into CC last tournament, and short of a land raider, I don't particularly have an answer to that problem. The drop pod has had trouble staying alive that long it seems, and the thought of dumping a lot of plasma into the enemy seemed like the best bet... Maybe I just need more games and experience though?

I was thinking I5 would help in Close Combat, now I'm not quite so sure.

I might need to take a serious look at this option instead then

Yeah, though ATM, it's my best chance of a serious CC buff to the Warpsmith.... I'll think this one over too. Maybe the burning brand of Skallthrax?

Essentially yes, but with better saves, firepower, and survivability. My cultists were getting nuked off the table by turn two every game last tournament, so I couldn't help but think it might be a good idea to swap 13 cultists for 5 or 6 SM's instead.

Thanks a lot for the input, greatly appreciated!

I'd drop the marines if they aren't decked out with special weapons for cultists as well. If your cultists are being shot then those are shots your punch units aren't getting.

My cultists usually just deploy or aim to reach an objective in cover to just go to the ground the rest of the game and have a 3+ cover save which is as good as any marine

If you are trying to go by the NL fluff, sure a few CSM would be nice along the cultists, but I'd buff their numbers to 10 and get either plasmas or meltas so that they can shoot out of that rhino

As previously mentioned the marks need to match the units, that being said MoS lords aren't really good, they get I6 which is nice against other MEQ, but against other xenos it doesn't make much of a difference. A juggy lord would be a lot better instead of a bike one, but if you want to stick to the bikes I'd change the mark on the bikes to khorne, pay the khorne icon for the charge re-roll if you want to.

I've never seen a warpsmith on the table, mainly because the CSM sorcerer is a great choice so you always field a Lord and a Sorc, I'd sugget doing so as well, change the smith for a markless biker sorc to ride with the MoK bikes, endurance, shroud and invisibility would be huge buffs for that unit.

CSM 10k points
IG 3k points
Orks 2k points
WoC 3.5k points
VC 2.5k points

From your replies here's my suggestions...

Lord on Bike, MoS, x2LC, (or you can do a powerfist, or a LC and some kind of ranged, but you get +1I and can keep your bikes the same) SoC

Give both CSM a rhino and atleast 1 MoN for added survivability, kit your 2nd HQ to work with or buff 1 of these units. Add as many as you can cram into the rhino. Tons of threads on how to kit them.
