I purchased an Avenger Strike Fighter from an eBayer based out of Maryland (package return address is in Maryland, also) that had one other Forge World auction at the time that I bought it. I figured it seemed legit enough and was an auction format only with other bidders so I bit the bullet and bought it for about 20% ish off once the auction ended.

The package came in today and I started checking out the pieces. The color matched what I have recently been receiving from Forge World but I instantly noticed it felt a lot lighter. The plastic bits from the Valkyrie were still on the sprue and definitely actual GW pieces, but the resin pieces all seem a bit off. The resin parts of the wins are warped badly and far too thin (there are even slots so thin you can see through it or they are holes).

I've received warped pieces but nothing this terrible from FW. I feel I received a recast and from within the USA which I wasn't quite expecting. I was hoping to gain some insight before I contact GW and eBay to report the seller. (pics below)

I'd link the eBayer page but he has more auctions up and I don't want to contribute to recasts being sold

Just noticed that he received a negative feedback a couple days ago saying it was a fake recast, too

My FW resins have varied in color and even feel.

Thats definitely a recast. I do my own resin casting, but only of my own custom crafted stuff.

Those pictures look like the result of a poorly done recast.

Thin recasts like that, at least from my experience, is from a very poor mix, either intentional or accidental. That's something only a novice resin caster, or a chinese/scammy recaster would do.

Forgeworld makes mistakes, but from those holes in the wing on top of the thin spots, something like that leaving their warehouse and getting past quality control is just very very unlikely.

Associating 'scamming' recasters to Chinese is racist, yes, I'm Chinese and now an American citizen. Bad recasters are just that, a amateur at recasting. As to the original topic: buying forgeworld items off eBay with discount from MSRP is given that it's a recast, you have nothing to blame than yourself. if you insist on getting it, look closer to the images provided for warps, ask them for more close up images.

The Avenger shouldn't have any plastic parts, Valkyrie sprue or otherwise. It's a pure resin kit.

Yeah, you're right. No idea where these Valk wings came from

The image just looked like an unassemled, clean Avenger. I didn't think there would be USA based recasters. I suppose I should have known better and let my ignorance (and hope) get the better of me.

I files for a refund saying it was a counterfeit. Guess I'll see how it goes.

Bull. If you buy an item, the assumption is that the item is what it claims to be. If it isn't openly presented as a recast, then the onus of guilt is on the recaster. They are the ones to blame. They are criminals.

I swear, EBay gets more like the Wild West each day. "If you get shot, it's your own fault for looking at Outlaw McGraw funny."

Agreed, though the word criminal depends on the laws of each country, and we already have many discussion on this already. For all we know this seller from US is selling off what he bought from a recaster and trying to make a buck. As of the buyer, I hope you're sending back all the parts with tracking and get your money back, otherwise you're being a criminal yourself for keeping the recast model and trying to get your refund.

I had something similar to that as well. I won the auction for one of the limited run figures from Victoria Minatures. The female officer/commissar. It's a resin piece, like all of Victoria's newest stuff, only when it arrived, it was metal. If it was a recast they did a pretty good job as the detail is still good. Just annoying because I prefer resin over metal.

That looks like a reecast. The thin casting. Any pooling or rough surfaces below a part, that's a good giveaway.

I have a eBay recast land raider, all resin...... Warping, its took a while just to find the plastic bits to fix it up.

It could equally be a dodgy FW cast that the seller decided to cut his losses on rather than pursue replacements/refunds.

Honestly, with Fw's less than stellar QC, it could be either.

If it smells like chemical death its probably a recast. its 1 simple indicator.

I have no idea whether or not that might be recast, but FWIW I have received items direct from FW that had bits so thin you could see through them, occasionally so thin that you could pierce it with very little force.

FW push the limits of thin resin parts.

But in this case the part is not supposed to be thin. The wings on the Avenger are pretty solid blocks of resin, if they're thin enough to see through it's either a really bad miscast or a recast by someone who doesn't care enough to do it right.

I think you need to take a deep breath. There is nothing racist about the inferiority of Chinese exports. China has VERY lax industry standards, very little oversight, very poor quality control, and there have been countless examples in the last decade where exports did not match of to specified quality. Racism is baseless - this particular belief is due to empirical, historical examples and occurs due to verifiable laws and standards in place by the Chinese government.

Besides, it could be a Russian recaster, too

Some recasts dont smell at all. It was zhanchui who made that super smelly brittle crap but there are many more.

I call it as I see it, otherwise it becomes accepted. I did not call the original poster a racist, I point to the statement being racist/stereotype to me . I have bought some recasts from China, 1 time it comes from Hong Kong with a none Chinese sender name, it was a bad quality DKOK item, it took me a long while to clean all the double mold lines. Coming from China doesn't mean its Chinese as many foreigners are all over seas.

On topic: FW casts have some faults, its not always perfect. My DE tantalus came direct from FW and it has fitting issues, thank god my modeling skills by that time was good enough to resolve the problem. My avenger came direct from FW too, the clear canopy piece was not as clear as regular Valkyrie canopies, everything else was fine as far as I remember.

Still a super quick indicator.
