Soo....I noticed in Attack Wing the game came with a planet token. I decided that a 3D representation would be a lot more fun, and should work for X-Wing (and Armada).

I present to you the results:

Small Planets (I'm planning to put a ring around the lower left planet, at about a 60 degree angle)

Medium Planets

Sun

Death Star II (still under construction - to do, finish painting surface, add interior superstructure)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Scale shot of DS II, when it was being primed (it's 12 inches across)

Thinking of some rules for these...

- Obstruction: You cannot trace a line of sight through a planet. If any part of the target can still be seen without tracing a line of sight through the planet, you can still attack the target but it gets+1 Defense dice.

- You cannot stop on top of a planet.
1) If your movement would end on top of a planet move back along your route of travel until you no longer overlap with the planet and do not take an action.
2) Also, roll an attack dice to see if you take damage.
3) Finally, if your move is reduced due to contact with a planet, you may take a stress to rotate your ship 90 degrees left or right away from the planet. If you are already stressed, take a face-down damage card instead. (this move is to allow you to get out of a situation where you nose first into a planet and can't move through it in subsequent turns for some reason).

OPTIONAL: Gravity Wells

Planets pull ships closer towards them, based on proximity to a planet. If a ship starts it move within the indicated range below, after the ship has completed its movement, place a 1 movement marker on the side of the ship closest toward the planet and move it in that direction. If it is not clear which is the closest side of a ship, the ship's owner decides.

Small Planet (4"-5" diameter): Affects ship starting in Range 1 of the planet's edge.
Medium Planet (6"-10" diameter): Affects ship starting in Range 2 of the planet's edge
Large Planet (11+" diameter): Affects ship starting in Range 3 of the planet's edge.

It never ends well
