So....
Lingua-Technis. Supposably the aural form of raw binary code. The true question is- how does this work? In all the research I've done, pure computer code cannot be translated into an aural form (unless lingua-technis sounds like rapidly enunciated "zero one one zero".)

So how does this language work? Are the sounds that are produced by a techpriest "speaking" Lingua-Technis just the 40k equivalent of "modem noise" and the actual code is sent wirelessly, or did the AdMech somehow manage to translate Binary to sound that can translate back into Binary?

In addition, what does Lingua-Technis sound like? In some books it was described as squeaks and beeps like a 56k modem, but in others it has been described as staticky.

Is it aural relating to the ear or aural relating to an aura?

It's not binary in the form we know and trying to apply real world comp sci is a pointless exercise. Tens of thousands of years of discoveries, development, degradation, and rediscoveries is going to put most technology in a form that is near incomprehensible from anything we have today, despite possibly being based on some underlying idea. Whatever Lingua-Technis is, it isn't just binary.

This. So much this.

Lingua-Technis is the "secret language" of the Tech-Priests of Mars. Unlike many other secret languages, it's not something that can be learned through study alone... those who do not possess the implants of the Priesthood (cybermantle, potentia coil, etc.) simply do not have the necessary apparatus to decipher it.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Wouldn't it just be a tone for 0 & a tone for 1 used in extremely fast repetition?

Probably sounds like R2-D2.

I don't know about everyone else, but hearing that gave me an enourmous sense of inner calm.
I could listen to that for hours.

Ah, the voice of someone who never had to wait for it to end before they could use the internet...

Swing and a miss...

Downloaded my first picture around 1995 and it took an hour.

I always loved that sound - my only reservation is it should stay connected for a bit longer before re-connecting; the modulation on the main data stream has a charm to it i think.

edit: still enjoying it!

I had to deal with that noise as well, hated it at the time but it just brings back a sense of my childhood, and that is why I like the sound, personally.
