so i got me deathstorm awhile ago and have been having fun with the scenarios, but now i want to expand the tyranids abit to match up with the blood angels.
im wanting to get it to like 750 points ( i know 40k doesnt play too well at this level but im playing for fun)
i havent much understanding of the tyranids as ive never played them, infact deathstorm is my first venture into 40k
like the gargoyles and gaunts and asmuch as i want a hive tyrant its abit out of my budget atm, and i want to keep the models already in my collection. whether they good or bad
so what should i add to my meager 555 point horde?

Welcome to 40k. To help with your problem depending on your budget, I don't really recommend this but if it is a major problem with funds there is always ebay have a look around or ask at your local store someone may be getting rid of some nids always worth a try. But the question of what to get next is a harder question. Do you want a swarm army which has lots of little guys like rippers, gaunts etc? Or would you like a nidzilla list with more monsterous creatures? I play with a balanced maybe slightly more bigger guys. If you want fun then maybe a mawloc or tervigon. However if you wish to be competitive look at getting a tyrant. Hope this helps.

Good advice. I think running as the formation gives you a "fun" force. Cost is always an "issue" with 40k Saving up for a Tyrant will give you a huge boost, so it something to plan on doing. In the meantime Genestealers are not considered a good unit right now, so finding them cheap should be possible. A Mawloc, or more Carnifexen are also good add ons that will continue to be usefull.

A second path that will give a major boost at a reasonable cost would be to get a box of 'Thropes, you'll want one Zoanthrope, and one Venothrope for sure. The third depends on your "style" of play, but you'll likely get more use out of a second Veno. One Zoey, and two Venos runs 140 points so that would put you at 690. 60 points can buy a small unit of gribblies.

I think if you were to combine the Spawn of Cryptus, with a Broodlord hunting pack you could have plenty of fun, as long as you have plenty of terrain.

Good luck, and welcome to the Hive Mind!

Basically this. This is all great advice for beginning nid players. I would personally save up for a tyrant because its a versitile unit and an awesome kit. But to each their own. Happy hunting

thanks for the advice!
i think i like the idea of a mix of horde and big monsters.
i think ill end up running the genestealer brood and just a normal brood with a broodlord rather than spawn of cryptus.
the hive tyrant is defs an excellent model and i think i want it
unfortunatly i only have the last edition codex atm so abit behind on points and rules.
but what i thought i could do (not sure about equipment)
was take a
winged hive tyrant
carnifex
warrior bood
genestealer brood
gargoyle or hormagaunt brood

i like the idea of taking the gargoyles to fly around with the tyant and from what i understand some units points went down so i think i can easily fit them in at 750 points and add in some cool equipment
i did think about dropping the genestealers so i could have the gaunts and gargoyles and left me about 80 points for flashy equipment

If you want equipment don't splash out as you'll find out quickly some things are just not worth the points and you'll start to question yourself why did I just not take extra guys? Devourers on gaunts but not all gaunts maybe half of them is a good investment. Warriors only need one barbed strangler which will make them 100 points for a brood of 3. A carnifex with 2 twin linked devourers (12 strength 6 shots re-rolling hits) costs 150 points each and a dakkaflyrant will cost 230points without the egrubs, however egrubs on the flyrant are a must have 10 points, strength 5 and haywire can pose a threat to light armour.
