with the new codex out and a little casual 1K tournament being organised between friends at my local GW I thought I'd put a list together.
although we're all friends and I don't want to be too cheesey (hard with the new codex, I know) I do want to win or at least play competitively as there is a cash prize involved
HQ
Farseer - 115
spirit stone of A... You know the one
Spiritseer - 85
Spirit stone
Elites
wraithguard - 270
wave serpent
wraithguard - 320
D-scythes
wave serpent
Fast attack - 210
shadow spectres x5
exarch
shadow of death
1000 dead on.
I was trying to build Iyanden themed list before the new codex hit as you can probably tell and so also have dark reapers, 3 jetbikes and some warlocks and I'm on a budget.
weve decided unbound is fine and no Lord of Wars can be taken.
ive been considering investing in some dire avengers to help thin down horde armies.
my opponents will be Ultramarines, space wolves, dark eldar, mechanicum, inquisition/guard, orks and potentially daemons.
the seers will each jump in a wave serpent with the wraith guard and support them. Was thinking of deep striking the shadow spectres originally but at 1K I'm not sure if that will work...
thanks,
JabbaDeWonga

You appear to have bought the spirit stone of anath'lan for both of your psykers, I believe it is limited to 1 per army.

What are people's opinions of running dire avengers instead of shadow spectres in this list? I feel like I currently have a significant anti-horde weakness.

This list can work so long as you concentrate hard on one or two units at a time, in such a way as your enemy targets are unable to receive help in the next turn.
But I would aim to get d scythes on both squads of wraith guard, their shots ignore cover, (p173 in brb) and armour (ap2) which is very important (read: insanely good) when digging out opponents, and do not need to roll to hit, and kill on a 3+ and cause miltiple hits on overlap, and lastly, also cause huge D3 damage if being charged.
Good powers are the +1str warlock buff, the 3D6 mindwar primaris (forget name, {psychic shriek?} but it is from the brb powers spiritseers get) this is because both characters have fleshbane and by turn 4 or 5 you will be in combat at some point. If so charge!

Thanks for your reply,
So reduce the shadow spectres to 4 + a vanilla exarch without any bonuses/upgrades to free up points for the D-scythes puts me at 985?
Cheers

in a nut shell, yes, something like that. You can also generate some points from the spirit stone you hand back - I really do recommend it, the enemy will have a horrible time trying to deal with your list: the only real weakness is the lack of anti-air but your wave serpents are better than nothing (but not much better though) I would simply do this: when (and if) air power arrives for your opponent try to have already pretty much kill 1/3 rd of his ground army and then get back in the wave serpents and go flat out BEHIND the fliers. This will cost you a go but it will cost him 2 goes (unless they have vector dancer) turning around and your wraithguard will have a free shot at something on turn 3 disembark.
NB: this last tactic vs necron fliers and chaos death chickens may not work. If so simply run away in different directions after ground army dies.
ideally you would have some points somehow and get EML's for both wave serpents as anti air. is there a way to go for 2 spiritseers and achieve this for the points?

what are your thoughts on scatter laser jetbikes? Drop the shadow spectres for them if you have the models, the spiritseer too. Maybe also pick up a bike for your farseer

Hi guys, thanks for the comments!
I've put scatter lasers on the wave serpents and given both wraith guard D-scythes.
I've replaced the farseer with another spirit seer and both will ride with the guard in the serpents.
I've added a windrider squad with 3 scats.
I can either then have 4 shadow spectres or 5 dark reapers.
I played with the original list today. Got absolutely tabled by dark eldar as he stole the initiative and blasted me off the board in 3 turns. I did much better against tyranids at 1500 following the same basic layout but that was mainly due to the knight beasting his monstrous creatures!
Cheers

Sounds like bad luck against the dark eldar, not quite sure how he tabled you otherwise in 3 turns.

How have the shadow spectres treated you? I was considering picking up a few and the pheonix lord.

If you are playing dark eldar then you have to keep out of range for turn 1 and 2.. closing the distance wins him the game so dent him that... he will kill you in close combat.. he may try to plink you with dark lances and poison but wave serpents will out trade that engagement 9 times out of 10.. Instead stay back use cover and fire both the serpent sheilds at the first squad /vehicle you can and delete it (and stay back) then once his deployment is apparent (he will have picked a flank or use a wwp) dump and pump the wraithguard into a second squad (the most isolated) to delete it he will want to charge you but that is why the str helps. @LordCommissar - I've only played a handful of games with them (using the Phoenix Lord model as an exarch because it's awesome). They seem pretty decent, they tossed out 4 direct hits out of 6 small blast templates str4 AP4 against some gaunts one turn and genuinely were my highest scoring unit (bar the knight), the ability to shoot and jetpack out of charge range was a blessing - and the haywire grenades were more than useful in my struggle against dark eldar.
As for the DE match up, my deployment let me down massively. Not considering the possibility of him stealing the initiative I set up pretty exposed and kept rolling 1s and 2s on my jink saves so he'd glanced one serpent to death and almost completely slaughtered the Scythe guard within turn 1, while putting a hull point on the other, and bringing my 6 shadows spectres down to 2... It was pretty much game from there haha - haven't been trounced that badly in a long while!
The spirit seer psychic shrieked his way out of a 4 on 1 gene stealer combat he was about to lose towards the end of the tyranid game which was pretty epic!

Upon reflection from my early games I've been considering running this variation of the list - what'd you think, better or worse?
HQ (70)
Spirit Seer (telepathy)
Elites (335):
Wraith guard (D-Scythes)
Wave serpent (bright lances, shuri-cannon)
Fast attack (180)
4x Shadow Spectres
Exarch (Shadow of Death)
Heavy Support (100):
4x Dark Reapers
Allied Harlequin Formation (315):
The Heroes Path
Death Jester (60)
Shadow Seer (110)
(Mask of secrets, mastery level 2, neuro disruptor)
Solitaire (145)
1000 dead on.
The Harlequins will infiltrate into cover as close to the enemy as possible and try to scare the opposition off the board while attracting enough attention to allow the wave serpent to get up the field without it getting shot to hell...
The shadow spectres are versitile enough to take instead of a second lot of wraith guard IMO... The jetpack ability as well as the small blast or lance/ghostlight shooting options (as well as haywire grenades!) make them a better choice for a tourney list. The shadow of death special rule seems to fit really nicely with the harlequins thematically as well :p
The dark reapers sit at the back in cover firing 8 str5 ap3 shots that will help deal with MEQ lists.
Personally I feel this list covers more bases but I've never played harlequins before and am eager to know if sinking so many points into a 3-model formation will work well at 1000 points?
Thanks for reading, and all the c&c so far!

No words of advice on this?
Alternatively I was thinking of a couple of 5-man squads of windriders mostly kitted out with scatter lasers to get more wounds on the table.
