Hi there!

After a two year hiatus of only playing fantasy, I picked up the start to a Chaos Space Marine army just because the worrisome rumors of 9th.

The league I joined is escalation, and we are starting at 1250 points. I'm not looking to make a world beater, I picked CSM because I already have some really cool lord on disks, demon princes, and other stuff from my Warhammer fantasy armies.

So, here's what I've got to start with.

Main

1 Chaos Lord of Tzeenth on a disk w/ power lance, melta bombs, and an additional ccw.
1 Demon Prince of either nurgle or slaanesh or tzeentch, undecided on psyker levels, but with flight and chaos armor. (leaning psyker 2)

2x 30 cultists, undecided mark and 3 flamers

6 raptors w/ stuff?

1 Helbrute
1 Warpforge Demon Engine thingy? The one that has the two cannons or the templates and can buy an extra template.

Allies

1 Herald of Tzeentch on a Disk, Mastery 2
15 Pink Horrors

Thats about 1250.

Any advice?

At 1500 I was thinking of adding either termies, 2 preds, a soulgrinder, or another demon prince for the demon side.

I don't play daemon's, So i can't help much there. As far as loadouts on the CSM your uncertain about.

If your going with the tzeentch lord on disk, give him a sigil of corruption to give him a reasonable 3++. Also, make sure you pair him up with the raptors to help keep him maneuverable.

Daemon Prince of Nurgle with Wings, PA, and a black mace makes a very scary thing to deal with and with it being nurgle it can get 2+ Jinks. Which is good cause its going to draw a lot of fire.I don't really run psykers because i dislike the psychic phase mechanics, but if you are gonna give him levels, I'd say go big or go home and give him the 3 levels.

I'd divide the the cultists up into 4 15 man squads and use two of them with the Helbrute in the Helcult Formation to make them fearless and give the helbrute a 3+ cover save at the cost of a cultist. I'd reserve the other two and walk them onto the objectives a couple turns in.

I'd give the raptors a set of meltas and melta bombs on the champ. Put them with the lord and run around popping transports with the meltas and then gibbing their meaty insides on the assault.

I prefer my forgefiends with the hades autocannons. Makes them effective anti-flyer. Snapshots or not, 8 st8 shots are gonna deter any flyer. Considering you can activate his forge for a turn to TL those shots also helps with that threat factor.


Depending on your financial situation, you may also want to look into a some additional models. Things like Heldrakes, Chaos Spawn, and Maulerfiends can really make all the difference.

I agree with Nurgle prince with wings, armor, black mace and lvl 3. It is a point hog, but lvl 3 gives an extra chance at iron arm. If you really want a monster, ally with daemons and take a Nurgle prince so you can take a balesword+ether blade and all three powers from biomancy. If you get warp speed and iron arm (about 50% of games if you take 3 biomancy powers) that makes 10 attacks (str 9 ap 2) with instant death at init 10 on the charge, all with a 2+ jink. You also have one other greater gift (all of which are good).

As far as daemons go increase psyker lvl to three and loose some horrors for it just for more help in the psychic phase. Use them for their maelific powers. As far as adding for daemons don't bother with the daemon prince it's not worth it the soulgrinder is. Phlegm bombardment is devastating. Also use the tzeentch primaries power for flyers if you weren't thinking about doing that.

Use them = Put them on flying models that I control, or on enemy models to combat them?

Give your Lord on a disc a book of some sort and he becomes the more useful Sorc. Keep him unmarked so he doesn't waste a power on a god. Consider giving him Burning Brand of Skalanthrax to be a poor-man's drake. There are no jet bikes in this army so either retinue with the raptors you have so you can jump around at 12" or run with spawns for more wounds and better charge. He can break off independently and flame stuff or use powers. Most likely you can skip the BBoS and just use powers to buff the spawns.

Skip the flamers on the cultist

Dont bother using 1 helbrute. Either you get 3 and deep strike a mayhem pack or you use Helcult formation with the single brute.

That Warpforge daemon engine is a Forge Fiend or Mauler Fiend.

I surmise you have the daemon book as you have the cost for them and not the CSM. Are these all the units you have? If you want more csm, please pm me.
