Hello my fellow Traitors!

I had been working on an allied detachment of Traitor Guard for my CSM since the middle of 6th using the IG codex. My army was mainly going to be vets in Chimeras with a few Leman Russ as a Heavy Support, but after buying a few Chimeras/Leman Russ and an IG Battleforce, I shelved my idea to work on Daemons. I got back into the idea of Traitor Guard after AM came out, but the release of 7th edition a few weeks later killed that idea by reclassifying IG and CSM as CtA allies.

I had almost considered selling my poor Guardsmen until Forge World released IA:13. I was so impressed by this army list, that I instead decided to run a full R&H army, mostly for fun/fluffy games, instead of just a measly allied detachment. However, looking over the list, it seems to prefer mass quantities of troops and fixed artillery pieces. I would rather play a more mobile, mechanized list with plenty of tanks and Chimera units. Would such a thing be viable for even casual games?

I was thinking something along the lines of a full Infantry platoon of 10-man infantry squads in Chimeras with 2 special weapons, supported by 2 Leman Russ (I'm not sure which variants yet, but I'm leaning towards the Executioner for more Plasma-y death), a squadron of 3-Wyverns, 2 Valkyries with Lascannons for emergency AA and Rocket Pods for anti-horde, and taking a Veteran squad or two with Carapace Armor and 2 special weapons with a Bloody-Handed Reaver so I can make them knock-off Scions with Hot-shot Lasguns.

I often run 3 10 man infantry squads with 2 flamers and krak 'nades in chimeras (with a hf on them) for 105pts a squad. With flamers they don't need militia training, and krak 'nades makes them very threatening to most non-walker armour. They support my spawn very well. 43% cheaper than a similarly armed trip flamer vet unit.
I wouldn't suggest plasma guns on renegades because the GH butchers them (even more than guard), unless it is in a respawning unit.
Melta works well but not on chimera units as you can only take 2 melta which isn't really that reliable, and if taking melta you NEED to take militia training, so on a 10 man unit with 2 melta, the melta guns are realistically costing you 15pts each.
Flamers all the way on chimera units! The rapiers and earthshakers can deal with the armour.

I suppose a unit with 2 'nade launchers and an autocannon could be a good objective sitter when deploying onto an objective from a chimera, even better if one launcher was replaced with psudo-fearless sigil. They won't prevail against even a half hearted assault though. Not used this before so can't really comment further.

I had actually been experimenting with scouting vets in HF chimeras when the codex first released. It worked reasonably well. Unfortunately, I got distracted by all the new shinies released soon after.

I supported it with a bunch of lascannon sentinels and HB gun boat conqueror leman russ'.

The biggest strength of the Renegades Chimera is that it is so cheap you can afford to spam them mercilessly and throw them away like you would infantry squads. Infantry units in them could work well. I would probably either run them w/ sigil and autopistols and perhaps throw krak grenades on the unit.

Mech is totally viable. Renegades have access to a ton of vehicles. 10x Infantry in a Chimera is very cheap, heck even going 2x meltagun w/ militia training is only 115.

But Renegades also get access to a lot of other cheap chimera vehicles like the Salamander. It basically is like a Land Speeder and a Chimera fused together. Being Fast and having access to normal Chimera weaponry (including the Autocannon) makes it great for zooming out to objectives and still doing decent damage for the points.

Then you have Sentinels. They are cheaper and can be taken in units of up to 6. I always run a squadron of 6 with just multi-lasers and militia training which gives me 18 s6 shots for 160 points.

And a surprisingly good choice that know one thinks about is the Griffon. Yes as an artillery tank it is outclassed by the Wyvern but its strength is in how absurdly cheap it is at only 35 points. Since it can be taken in squadrons of 5 you can take a ton of just chimeras to move around the field just being a huge pain to remove all of them. They can move combat speed and still fire their large TL'ed S6 barrage make them a surprisingly damaging for the price.
