Hey guys,

Just got back into the hobby and collecting Dark Angels looking at my options are veteran squads worth taking?

Just a quick question and in general do many SM players use them?

Cheers

The SM sternguard have utility with special issue ammo. DA vets dont seem worth it. Just an invitation to overspend on options.

General SM players tend to agree that Sternguard vets are amazing.

Not sure about DA. Aren't the Deathwing veterans? They seem pretty hot.

Standard DA vets I've found to only be good for two things, either dropping in with a bunch of special and combi-weapons, or in some scenarios using them as a melee unit. For whatever reason they can't take jump packs (their robes would get tangled?), but if you stick 10 in a LR and throw in a couple power weapons, give the rest pistol and chainsword, that's 4 on the charge which is one of our better melee units in terms of attacks. Overall though, not sure how good they are. I personally prefer terminators as my elites (although they have their flaws), but the couple times I ran vets instead they turned out decent. They're also a good unit to throw Azrael in with to benefit from the 4++.

Thanks for all the replies guys

Makes sense 4 attacks on the charge is a good option for CC units.
