Someone asked how I would do Flayed One Conversions a longtime ago, and this is what I came up with. Everything is right out of the Necron Warriors box, and they've been a great addition to my army. I'm even considering doing a 2nd unit since my original 20 metal ones seem to remain lost in the Storage Stasis crypt...
I've even written fluff for them, so they fit in with both my army and explain the lack of fleshy bits.

I like it. They still look pretty brutal with the way you posed them.
I am curious about the fluff you've made to explain why they aren't covered in bits, though.

I preferred Flayed Ones back when they were killers, who wore the skins for the psychological effect. So I thought about and I think I came up with a believable solution, that I feel is cool. It's not refined yet, but you should get the idea.
History has shown that Criminal Organizations have existed in many different Cultures. They had to have existed in the Necrontyr Empire with how oppressive their dynasties were coupled with the short life span. The 'Orphens' were one such group of low born, that offered a chance to have a better life if willing to work for it. Specializing in brutal terror tactics and gang Assassinations, they established a name for themselves.
Their influence grew to the point where they could no longer be ignored. One of the lower ranked Houses took notice, and instead of squashing these upstarts, they decided to work with the Orphens to raise their status. The Orphens had the advantage of being able to move around without all of the restrictions that the Nobles were bound to, and the House increased its status without ever being tied to the Orphens.
With the harvest and Bio Transference approaching, the Orphens struck a deal that they thought would allow them to maintain their organization after they became Necrons. The Orphens were given a token and when the entered into the Furnace, a slight change was made to their engrammic code identifying them as Orphens, and in some part their skills. This didn't make any difference as the loyalty protocols eliminated all criminal activities from the Necron Empire, and the Orphens ceased to exist.
Then a curious thing happened, the rebellion against the Star Gods unleashed the Flayer virus which corrupts the engrams of and dooms those afflicted to their terrible fate. When the Virus hits an Orphen, it actually accesses that code, and portions of the organization return. Orphens now return to their preferred close combat style, gang tactics, killer instinct, and for some unexplained reason, they tend to find each other and band together. While they are most likely unaware of why they are doing this, those Phaerons that used the Orphens remember all too well who they are.
For them, it's a question of how many more are out there.
Thanks for reading. No, it's not great, probably could use some work, and its an example of how much free time I've had to think about it. It works and I'm happy with it.

they look good. But frankly, I prefer the gory, old metal GW flayed ones. But thats just personal opinion.
That is interesting fluff, and I feel the necrons are one of the harder races to kitbash (bar overlords and cryteks) but seem like its not hard to give them pretty solid fluff though
great work! If you dont mind me asking, how did you make the knives? I would guess the gun handle of a necron warrior, with a splintered energy rod but I might be mistaken.
happy wargaming,

I also prefer the Metal Ones, and I have 20 of them somewhere. Can't find em though, and with how much better they are now, people are driving the prices up on them on Ebay.
As for the Handles, I did a 3-cut on the guns for the right hand and kept the 'Guard'. For the left hand I just cut down on either side of the support rail, then carved fingers as much as I could if I shaved off the wrong part. Yes, you're spot on for the spikes. I simple shaved the Green Rod at both ends with a Dull Craft Knife, which is what makes it very white at the tips. Then I cut them in the middle with some Sprue Cutters, cross filed them flat, and just glued em on.

Thanks for sharing the backstory, I honestly just like when people come up with their own stories for their armies. It'd be interesting to see more done with things like viruses causing widespread changes in Necrons. The flayer thing is the only one I can remember right now.

If you look at the Necron Warriors other hand on a normal Necron Warrior, he's gripping the rail under the Green Rod. Instead of cutting that out, I clipped it above the thumb and below the hand to make a simple Handgrip w/o a Knuckle Guard.
I've had such a positive feed back on these, that I might do my second unit the same way if I still can't find my metal ones after I move. It's also be after I get my Destroyers, Tomb Blades, and Praetorians done. I might have an extra Warrior around in my Bitz box, so if people don't want to wait, I can make just one.
