So I'm a new Tyranid player, and I'm wondering what is the best way to build a CC Hive Tyrant? I generally prefer CC over range, and Hive Tyrants look like they can hit hard. I have heard Wings are a must if you plan on assaulting a lot, so I plan on having wings, but I have no idea what are the best weapons for a winged Hive Tyrant. Also, in general, what are the best warmer choices for a Hive Tyrant? Regeneration seems cool but pricey, as well as Old Adversary. Any tips on an assault Hive Tyrant would be much appreciated!

Also, as I'm starting to build my army list, a Carnifex seems cool, but I also don't know how to gear one. Are they better ranged or melee? What are the best weapons for them?

Well Regen on a Hive Tyrant if iffy, as it is 30 points. So I'd stay away from it on all but your most prized, survivable MCs.

If I run a CC Tyrant, it would be with the following:

Wings, Old Adversary, Electroshock Grubs or Shreddershard Beetles (for some ranged goodness), Adrenal Glands, and the Reaper of Obliterax relic. If you don't want to spend the 45 points on the Reaper, then I'd go with a regular Lashwhip+Bonesword combo.

So you have a FMC with Fleet, Furious Charge, a template weapon, and on the charge he's S8 with 6 attacks, initiative 8, rerolling To Hit rolls of 1, and has Shred and Instant Deaths on a 6.

To add to this, the formation that lets a tyrant join a big unit of gargoyles seems very necessary for actually having him get into combat

Yeah SkyTyrant is a good way to use a CC Tyrant. I am getting to like the idea of a CC Tyrant for Hyper Toxic as well.

The general agreement is a CC tyrant needs a Thorax hive to handle special problems (Mostly Electro grubs for Haywire) Lash whip/ Bone Sword is a tried and true answer, the Reaper is popular as well ...but very expensive.

Adrenal is useful for Furious Charge, and Fleet, but not mandatory. Old Adversary is pretty dang useful, so you might take that as well.

So I would suggest Winged Tyrant, Thorax, Lash whip and Bone sword, Old adversary, then add extras as allowed by your budget. ( base cost: 245 or so) If you put her in a SkyTyrant you'll also need to add two Broods of Gargoyles as well.

If you run a Hyper Toxic Node, you must take Toxic Glands, and you get to add Instant Kill to any Poison attack, so that might make for a different CC tyrant, no need to buy a Bone Sword.

Possible "Toxic Tyrant" Winged Tyrant, 200, Toxic, Miasma Cannon, Thorax hive, Scything Talons...245? And the Miasma Cannon gets IK as well.

The will of the hive is always the same: HUNGER
