Hi everyone,

i am very new to the hobby as a matter of fact i just started out. (i painted some miniatures to see if i like the hobby and i want to get into it now!)

i started building a Tyranid army and got my Tyranid codex 7th edition.

Now looking at how i want to build my Carnifex im running into 2 questions wich i cant figure out using google + reading codex so i hope you guys can help me out.

Question 1:
The internet states that the Carnifex heads have different "biomorphs" such as: "tusked" or "regeneration" but in the codex i can only find arm or tail biomorphs for the Carnifex. (i found an article that said that 2 of the Carnifex head bio's were old and not in the game anymore) does this mean the carnifex head Bio's are of older generations and i can now choose any head I want just for the looks or are there still rules/points/bio's attached to some of the heads ?

Question 2:
The different forums state that a "Dakkafex" with 2 twin linked devourers + brainworm leech are the way to go for the Carnifex,
The "Tydanid swam box" i have only comes with devourer arms ( now i already figured out that i can just add 2 heads of the devourer guns onto 1 of the larger guns to make it a twin linked devourer ) but the codex says that the weapons of Tyranids work in pairs so : 2 scythe arms= 1 scythe. 2 devourer arms = 1 devourer ( if i understand this correctly. But now if i want to have "double twin linked devourers does this mean i need to have 4 conversed double devourer arms to have the Double twin linked devourer everyone is talking about ?

i hope you guys can help me with my answers.
thx in advance!

1: yes, the current Nid codex removed some biomorph rules, so yes, several head options now have no rules effect. So long as it's visually clear what biomorphs the head has, to match your army list, you can choose whatever you like. some players magnetise the head to allow easy swaps.

2: yes, the kit just has 2 devourer arms, so 2 twin linked devourer arms require some sort of conversion (or buying/swapping spare devourer arms, but that can be expensive as they're so popular). Visually, you want the resulting model to have either:
- all four arms holding devourers
- or the arms on each side fused together and holding some sort of double-headed devourer

So the double linked devourers indeed take up all 4 arm slots ?
Is it allowed/possible to make 2 double linked devourer arms using a conversion of devourer arms with crushing claws and then use the 2 remaining arm slots for the normal scything talons ?

You could do that, but you would not benefit from the talons. It would be for appearance only. The codex tells you what options a carnifex can take. A dakkafex gives up both pairs of talons in order to get the devourers. Normally, people double up on the arms by buying from a bits site to get a dakkafex

If the aesthetics are more important to you, FW has twin-linked devourer arms.. These are popular for Flyrants that use an arm socket for their wings.

Under the current rules, a single set of Talons does absolutely nothing, so there is no reason you can't do just that.

You may wish to ask in your local scene, where you want to play, too. Most people aren't that picky, and will let you represent two devourer arms as two twinlink pairs if all your Carnifexes are to be thus, especially since the kit doesn't ship with common loadout options.

Plus the scything talons look cool

I'm a little late to the party, but what I did was cut the front of the Barbed Strangler (or whatever it is now) and attach a Devourer hive, two of the gun heads put together. The other arms are Talons for the reasons stated above, they don't matter. Keeps me happy, keeps my opponent happy.
