Howdy all. I had a change of plans with my Space Marines and decided to go with a custom chapter, and also do what I have been wanting to do for quite a while: truescale. It could also be artscale or upscale, I don't really mind the correct terminology. I just wanted to create Adeptus Astartes that are larger than guardsmen, with the new manly sized based lending even more for the look. I give you, the Hounds of Myra. Their background will be serious as hell, and pay homage to Space Wolves. The army is assembled and kitbashed from standard and 'wolf bitz to give them a slight feel, but nothing as ornate and cheesy as the full 'wolf miniatures occasionally are.

For two weeks I did nothing except cut, sand, fill and model Space Marines. I created 48 "truescale" troopers, it was quite the ordeal. It directly translates to hundreds of legs and torsos being sawed, extended with plasticard and filed and sanded. Picture of the army so far here.

Here's a shot of the scale: http://i62.tinypic.com/10z9tht.jpg

They are slightly larger than your standard marine, but nothing crazy. Just enough to make them stand out in comparison to lowly peasants. I'm using stylized battledamage for these guys, in limited amounts.

I consider myself a dipping veteran, as I have dipped atleast 5 armies before. This was the first time I tried Army Painter Quickshade -and I am satisfied with the product. It runs well, pools less than the standard dipping varnishes and brings out details nicely. Some stuff I've dipped before can be found here and here and here and here.

Chapter colours:

Hounds of Myra

The Hounds are a fleet based chapter, but there are rumours of them having a base of operations of sorts, located on cemetery world Prester Myra. Inquisitorial researchers were able to conclude this by comparing their name to that of the planet ( amazing. ) The Chapter is unique when it comes to it's recruitment methods, for there is a specialized Astra Militarum -detachment from which the greatest and bravest initiates are chosen. Being promoted to Adeptus Astartes status often requires inhumanly courageous acts from the lowly guardsmen, such as Drop Pod assaulting a battle Titan, and countless years of service. However, this ensures a steady stream of potential recruits for the chapter.

The hounds bear similarities to the Sons of Russ, especially noticeable are the naming conventions, often serious and credible in nature. Their Chapter Master, Wolfy Mc Wolfhound, also known as Murdermaimer, leads his warriors to battle with iron resolve. The Hounds make good use of Drop Pods and firesupport, often sending the eager Astra Militarum initiates in the first wave so they may soak up most of the enemy fir... muster the greatest honour in order to be included in within the Chapter. The fire support detachments make sure the enemy is pummeled while the assaults take place, but occasionally "accidents" do happen as there is but a limited amount of Power Armour to go around.

Squad members of Tactical Squad "Murderhounds." On the left, trooper Wolfman. Notice the white winged foam droplet on his bolter and the silver ornate shoulderpad - The Honours of the Mad Dog, symbolizing the fact he has overcome the White Rabies, a vile disease occasionally plaguing members of the Chapter.

Thanks fellas. Supposedly truescale are 'marines modeled after the fact that they are supposed to be larger than your average mortal. However, the height of a Space Marine has varied wildly in different publications depending on who was the writer, and only recently the final "say on the matter" was achieved.

The 'marines are infact kind of in scale by default; it's the guardsmen that are the issue, their arms being as thick as a marines with just a shirt on. Talk about steroids.

The idea in my project however isn't in essence to make them actual accurate truescale or whatever. I use Astra Militarum allies and I want my 'marines stand out as Adeptus Astartes in comparison to the mutant guardsmen. It's more about the fun of doing it than actual accuracy, and with the new bases I find the bigger 'marines look awesome.

My only issue is with the fluff. You can't become a marine unless your an adolescent, because you need to grow with your implants.

In regards to the paintjob, nice work.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.
Rule #2 is Do Cool S*%* Even If It's Tactically Inadvisable
Winning is something like Rule #17.

Nonsense, the Hounds have a secret vial that includes a special mixture, brewed from the beard of their Rune Priests which the initiates drink that magically transforms them into Space Marines. Thanks.

On a more serious note, men who have reached adulthood have been made into Space Marines within the Dark Angels for example, but that was in the ancient past and I'm not sure that's doable anymore. I can't recall how it was possible for them to wear power armour though and how the organs were handled or if they were. This was on Caliban.

I also agree with Runic. Men on the planets of the Primarchs (once found) where geno-enhanced into Marines

Thank you. The Company Command Squad is now ready.

The hardiest veterans who have survived 2 drop pod assaults get to join the legendary Company Commander ( who has survived 3 ) John Droolbark in ultimate battle. The chapter supplies the cushiest pillows ( relics of the armoury ) to these worthy elite of the 306th Prester's Claws to ensure maximum performance and safe planetfall. Droolbark is the longest standing Company Commander of the regiment, with a service record of 3 weeks. The meltaguns of the squad have been remodeled by the best artificers to look like Hellguns in order to deceive the enemy into thinking they are facing flashlights. Failure to hit with a meltagun during battle is followed by instant demotion to battle barge janitor.

Warcry: "Forward you dogs, to victory!"

Thank you, appreciate it. The Callidus Assassin of my force is now ready.

NOTICE: NSFW

Myra, the Assassin

Spoiler:

Suspected of being an ex-Callidus Assassin, Myra is a mythical figure among the Hounds and their Militarum allies. Appearing out of nowhere, she causes a reign of confusion with her bio-implants *cough*, lightning fast reflexes and the element of surprise. Wielding a deadly scythe stolen from a peasant and a custom made plasma pistol, she can take on almost any target. Her survival is ensured by her armor class 48 body armour, which eclipses even the revered Tactical Dreadnought Armour in protection. Myra kills without mercy and is seemingly mostly interested in men with the most power in the opposing army, but in a way that is very unhealthy for them and rarely painless. No one within the chapter can match her closecombat prowess, altough Wolfy McWolfhound comes fairly close. There is suspicion of Myra be... *BLAM* *Nyaaarghgh...*

Further descriptions involving a certain facing that is not the front, along with assassins, and canine related innuendos purged by the Inquisition.

Every wargamer needs a "I just came out of my moms basement" -miniature. This one is mine, there are many like it. But this one is mine. Unfortunately I cannot recall the manufacturer or the name of the miniature.

After a very tedious few weeks ( or something ) it's finally done. I give you;

The Queen's Revenge ( or Imperatus Stompus Deletus for High Gothic ) is a freeblade Castigator pattern Cerastus Knight fighting for the Hounds. Piloted by the noble Hector Barbossa, this titan is seen at the vanguard in battles of most apocalyptic nature. It is unknown what oath or pact holds the Queen's Revenge in service, but it is suspected of having something to do with Myra. It is rumoured that the titan must always have a pilot, or else it go rampant. The pilot is allowed 1 day on ground every 10 years, usually translating to the poor sod going completely insane at some point.

"Hahaha! You're just helping us you mortal fool! We got a Blood Tithe point out of this despite my vastly more costly death! WINNING IS LOSING! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!"

-Daemon Prince Flatcorpse the Incompetent's last words, before being crushed underheel by the Queen's Revenge

I used a similiar colourscheme for the knight but not the exact same one as the rest. It blends in while having a unique look. Did battledamage, rain lines, freehand imagery, rust. The feet are caked in mud and dust ( vallejo pigments + typhus corrosion ) and there is some gore on the stomped daemon prince, made with contact glue, paint and washes.

I'm not sure but this might be the only dipped Imperial Knight Castigator in existence? Who knows.

I hope you enjoy.

Tiny criticisms would be the powerplant looks a touch too clean and the viewing slit/sensor piece dont have lens flare.

Very, very cool stuff here. I love it so far.

But if you knocked out that beautiful knight in "a few weeks", then one of two things is true:

1. You are ten times the hobbyist I will ever be.
OR
2. You have no life and spend every waking minute on this hobby. And you're still eight times the hobbyist I will ever be.

I can't wait to see more of your stuff!

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciate it.

I have done numerous armies with dipping, so I have developed a pretty good routine and get stuff done pretty fast. These are models I just paint to gaming level, hence I don't necessarily highlight window slits and the like ( altough I'll probably do it later. ) My main goal now is to get a decent paintjob on my miniatures so I can participate in tournaments with a painted army. What you see in this thread is by no means showcase work - these are just tabletop stuff.

Some more detailed, time consuming work can be found in my sig if interested/bored.
