Hey all, i'm building a list and just need some help as i am not sure about certain rules governing Independent Characters and transports.

I believe i am right in saying that only one unit may be present inside a transport, so i couldn't have 2 squads of 5 scouts inside a land raider but can i take two IC's in a Razorback?

Secondly, If an IC, like a Master of the Forge, joins an Inquisitor, that's illegal, as their both ICs and not units, correct? Does this also count if the MotF has servitors attached to him? Does having servitors accompany him remove his IC status and prevent him from joining other squads? Making a MotF with 2x servitors with a Tac squad as one unit illegal?

Thanks for you help guys i have tried searching through my BBR but the characters section seems quite on these matters.

Ok, lets break it down a bit...

You are correct that only a single unit may embark on a transport. 2 different squads of scouts in a land raider is a no go.

In regards to the independent characters - you need to read up the IC special rule. It clears up most of your questions.

2 IC's can join each other to form a unit by themselves and as they are a single unit, they can embark on the razorback.

MotF can join an =][= just fine as both are IC, neither have a restriction on joining things so yes they can join to form a single unit.

If you look up the entry for servitors, there is no requirement for the MotF to be joined to them and he never looses his IC rule. As such he can freely leave them and join anything he likes (though the servitors Mindlock will cause you problems). As an IC can only join a single unit at a time, he can't join the tactical marines if he is already part of the servitor unit.

As I said, the independent character special rule covers this completely.

The "Combat Squads" rule gives an exception, in that a 10-man squad broken into 2 5-man can still be embarked on the same transport

Yup - I did not have my SM codex on hand so did not want to say that for certain!

But both combat squads in the same transport must be from the same parent squad(the purchased unit)

For example if you take a 10 man unit of scouts, give half of them bp+ccw(and cc-kit the sgt) then give the other half ranged weapons(bolters or shotguns and a heavy bolter, or sniper rifles) and combat squad them, those 10 may embark on the same land raider roll up near an objective with some defenders, disembark, and the ccw squad can assault while the ranged squad moves to secure the objective.

Example 2: if you take 2 10-man scout squads, 1 all ranged and 1 all ccw and combat squad both; you cannot put the same half-choices(1 ccw and 1 ranged) in the same land raider as they are 2 different units(selection units)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Also the rules for super heavy transports are a bit different as well. you'll find those in the super heavy vehicles section of your rulebook.

Tau commanders can take drones and still join units.

Tau commanders with Drones do the same thing (Pet wolf = Drone)

Except drones aren't as cool, don't have as much personality, and aren't as good at playing fetch. But in almost all other respects, yeah... pet wolf = drone.

drones hover and can even have 4++. Can't see pet wolves getting those.

Really? I can, Forewarning will give the entire unit a 4++

You still don't have hover doggies though.
If you find a way to make the wolves fly then they will definitely be way cooler than drones.
