Student Curious About Xenos

Ontario, Cananda

Hello,

I was playing a game the other day and my opponent was claiming that his transport parked at the bottom of a ruin was scoring an objective on the 2nd floor (6" high). He claimed that the objectives range is measured only horizontally and that it being on the top floor was irreverent. We looked it up in the rule book but couldn't find any clarification. Could someone on Dakka please enlighten me on this situation.

Also, while I have you here, is there still restrictions on bikes, beasts, and monstrous creatures from moving up floors in ruins?

Thanks,

All measuring is measured directly from the and to the models and such in question. That means if its vertical you measure vertically. That is just how measuring works.

It is on your opponent to show you a rule that actually says otherwise.

Also ruins no longer have any rules for levels and floors so no longer have any rules restricting any unit types from moving up through it.

A unit in a building is considered to be within 3" of any objective on, or in it. The same does not go for ruins

He'll need to find a rule to back that up, then.

There is no such rule, though.

RAW is what everyone above says: 3" in any direction including diagonally.

But this is a common house rule and tournament FAQ rule, so check if your game uses any of those. Some say 3" horizontally and 6" vertically. Others do say objectives are infinitely tall.

I couldn't find it in the ITC, ATC, or Adepticon FAQ, but the NOVA FAQ says: "Objectives are considered infinite height."

I get how infinite height would benefit a sniper 6" above the objective, but would the infinite height of the objective extend beneath it?

Of course, the vehicle could just ascend and get within 3 inches...

I've always played it as 3'' vertical but with levels all being 3'' regardless of their actual scale so you just have to be within a floor
