Has anyone tried these guns? They look ok, but suffer from short range. Having 3 ammo runts for the Big Mek firing means that they can almost always reroll a shot that doesn't lock on. Any thoughts from people who have used them or thought about using them is appreciated.

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).
Keep on rolling

Haven't tried it but my thoughts;

  • Firstly its 12" range means you need to be close, you need to be within 12" to even fire it. So assuming they are 12" exactly away from you. With an average scatter roll of 7" in any direction, minus 2" or minus 3" (gitfinda) leaves you at a 4" scatter, that's enough for you to miss completely. Obviously this is assuming only 1 model in target unit. So more models is obviously much better. But in general its got a huge amount of scatter for its 12" range.

  • Can scatter on to you, admittedly with ammo runts this isn't really an issue imo (as the chance of re-rolling it onto you again is very low)

  • The actual rules - so it is S8, AP2, and on a 6 to wound has ID / Auto Pen - Whatever your firing at, either is 1 wound and in a blob (as that's easy to hit), therefore ID on 6's is pointless, or is a beefy character with multiple wounds and EW, making ID useless. Auto pen on 6s is only any good against AV14. And even then its only a glance up to a pen. Plus your likely about to charge whatever it is with killsaws, or a PK.

  • Cost - 25 pts, if it was 5-10 points i'd take everytime just for the fun and spice it adds. But at 25 points id rather find another 5 and bring a deffcopta. It can scout and arrive behind armour and doesn't need to be within 12".

  • MC's are probably its ideal target, they have multiple wounds and no EW, but you can only score one hit against them anyway, so your praying on a 6. Could be good against termi blobs, or DSing dudes who are tightly packed, Or some Nid units with multiple wounds and large bases. But even then you've had to do some serious work to get in a position to use it, you had to spend 25 points and have to be in a unit that is going for assault. I love the idea of it, but I just can't bring myself to bring something so wild at such a short range. If it had vortex instead at 12" I would take everytime, even with huge chances of killing myself it would be wayyyy more fun than ID on a 6.

    Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

    It be great if on a roll-to-wound of 1, instead of nothing, it put the unit it hits into ongoing reserves! Literally telly-ported them off the table but doing no damage!
