Hello guys! First post and fairly new player, i wanted to build up a fun army, not necessarly competitive, so me and my friend (as new as me) came up with this.
I'd really appreciate some input, since we are new we can't really tell the major flaws that it most certainly have... enough gibberish, to war!

Chapter Tactics
Ultramarines

HQ (165pts)
-Chief Librarian Tigurius (165pts)

Elites (560pts)
-Ironclad Dreadnought (145pts) - Heavy flamer
-Ironclad Dreadnought (145pts) - Heavy flamer
-Terminator Assault Squad (270pts) 6 models, all with Thunderhammer and Storm Shield.

Troops (258pts) - probably the weakest and less tinkered slot, we just really put them because we had to i guess.
-Scout Squad (98pts) Camo Cloaks, 6x Scouts , 6x Sniper Rifle + sergeant with sniper too
-Tactical Squad (160pts), Lascannon (20pts), 9x Space Marine (126pts) + bolter sergeant

Heavy Support (517pts) Here comes the big guns!
-Stormraven Gunship (261pts) Extra Armour, Hurricane Bolters, Searchlight , 4x Stormstrike Missile, Twin Linked Assault Cannons, Typhoon Missile Launcher
-Stormraven Gunship (256pts)
Hurricane Bolters , Searchlight , 4x Stormstrike Missile, Twin Linked Assault Cannons, Typhoon Missile Launcher.

For a clean 1500. As you probably guessed it, the idea is to deploy tigurius with the tac squad only, and hopefully let everything else enter from reserve turn 2. Dreads and termi are on the gunships of course.

What do you think guys? Could it work? Did we miss something? Can we make some better use of the 2 troops?

Thanks!

I'm relatively new to playing the game so I'm happy to be corrected but here are my thoughts.

You have 1x Tactical squad that is footslogging across the board. Using them as OS troops, not being able to move them quickly to objectives may cause issues and they may even just get shot up and then you are limited on options.

I haven't got my Codex with me so I can't comment on points, but I personally would drop the scouts and 1x dread, pick up another tactical squad and look at putting both Tac squads in Rhino's or drop pods.

Using the left over points(around 10 at a guess), dropping 1x Termie from that squad and dropping some of the extras on the fliers (hurriane bolters, searchlights and extra armour), you might be able to squeeze in a Stenguard squad in a drop pod, these guys are pretty awesome at getting the job done in removing key enemy units from the table.

As said, I'm happy to be corrected here and my points may be a little off without my codex

First off, welcome to Dakka and join the ranks of Ultramarine.

Imho, the marine troops usually need transport to become good. So it is better to bring droppod or rhino if you can.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Tigirus is a good character. It is better to use him buff the key units. Such as Devastator or Sternguard. I highly recommend put him with Grav Cent, if you have them. That is a very deadly combination owing to "perfect timing" grants ignore cover on that 15 AP2 shots, while forewarning grants 4++.

If you don't have those killy units. Using him to buff your Terminators is also better than just Tactical squads guarding the backfield. Invisible TH/SS Terminators? Invisible Ironclad Dreadnought? That would let most MC pissed.

I'd definitely get that Tac Squad a transport.

Alright then, rhino on tac squad, message received.

What about the 2 stormravens? Can it work?

I'd say drop the scouts, not seen too many times that they've been all that effective.

I Also agree that removing a dreadnought and looking at filling in the tac squads a bit better might be prudent.

Lastly, although I'm not sure I'll be met with a chorus of agreement I'd kit the terminators slightly differently making the most of the concussive special rule on the thunderhammers by taking 3 with Lightening Claws and 3 with thunderhammer stormshields, gets rid of more of the enemy models before the thunderhammers strike in a second round of combat, just a thought though.

Best of luck with the building of the list, not sure about two stormravens but haven't seen them enough to comment really.

My main issue is your lack of Troops but i guess with the Scout hiding in the back and the Tac Squad combat squading, you shouldn't be that bad.

Thank you for sharing your list. I am building a space marine force so what do I know? Not much.

Looks like you have a lot of fire power though and if your squad can survive turn one, it can give you an advantage to react to your opponent's deployment (your reserves). Good job there.

I like your choices.

So i tested it on the field, reporting back to you guys.

I got completely roflstomped by a tyranid flyer spam.

Tigurius was on the field turn one and had bad rolls on the powers, wanted invisibility but couldn't get it.
He managed to survive turn one alone with his squad, ( in the end i didn't load him in the raven), and allowed everything else to enter turn 2 ( go tigurius! ).
The first stormraven didn't do much, fired the first weapon on a tyranid heavy flyer and managed to bring it to the ground with a wound, wich was too bad because i already chose skyfire for all it's weapons so it didn't hit anything else -_-
Turn 2 first stormraven gets stomped by a couple electromagnetic templates, dread inside takes the F10 hits and dies.
The other raven got 2 weapon destroyed and not many hits, managed to drop termies and dread to deal with his HQ and pretty much annihilated it, but turn 4 i only had tigurius, 3 marines on heavy cover and 3 termies...so i gave him the win and went home.

Granted it was probably the worst list to go up against, it performed pretty bad... i'm rethinking it!

There is just so many points in units that are reliant on coming on to the board turn 2. I learned this the hard way with necrons a few weeks back. Granted you have abilities to buff your reserve rolls, but if for some reason they don't come in it's like you are fighting an opponent who has an army with 500 more points than you.
