As I understand it; each legion has a 'preferred' armour version which they use most - for example Blood Angels using mostly Mk III armour - so, could anyone tell me which variant the Emperor's Children used most?

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

I don't think they had a preferred one as a whole. They probably had highly individualised armour, some preferring different marks, and some having a mixture. With their whole perfection thing they probably had a more individual take, with their own design and stuff.

Forgeworld seems to indicate that they took particular interest in Mk IV armor

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

MkIV armour is called 'Maximus' because at the time of its production it was the pinnacle of armour technology, compared to the crude pre-Crusade technology that formed the basis of MkII/III.

Given their abhorrence of imperfection they would have wasted no time discarding their older suits (including or excluding MkIII depending on which version of the fluff you subscribe to).

Legions are ~100,000 marines each. To say almost anything about a legion-wide preference is going to be meaningless. Take the Emperor's Children for instance. Sure, they may have liked the Mk IV, but individual millennials or companies or squads may prefer Mk III, for its more impressive image and forward strength. And some pre-Fulgrim marines may have personally attachment to Mk II armor, or the armor gets passed down within squad as a tradition. Any type of armor, weapon, vehicle or role (with a few exceptions) can be found in any legion.

In Betrayer there's art of them in MkII, III and IV so they used all patterns. As jareddm said, all armour was found in all legions. I'd think the EC would have a much more personal take on what armour they wore, they'd probably take time personalising it and making it as good as they could, and they probably all had different ideas on what armour type was 'perfect'.

As has been stated FW's upgrade kits and the Palatine Blades Squad would suggest the Mk IV (also the best Mark).

How ever you are free to use which ever marks you prefer most. For example, I abhor the Mk II armor, but love the Mk III and IV armors (Including variants of the Mk IV such as SoH and Praetorian Patterns). So in my army you'll see little to no Mk II and plenty of Mk III/IV, regardless of the Legion.

For inspiration, here's some art of EC in the three main armour marks:

They certainly used all patterns, but there does seem to be a definite leaning towards Mk4 in Betrayal, not only were there far more Mk4 pictures (5, vs 3 total of the other marks) but the (single) Mk3 pictured was accompanied by a footnote stating Iron armour was only used in limited numbers within the Legion, by specialised units.

Of the two pictures of marines in Mk2 one of them had a footnote specifically noting 'older issue' armour. Book 3 actually says that Mk2 was 'largely obsolete' by 927.M40 ~ almost 80 years before the Heresy.

With the giant weak point in the center mass of the armor, I'd say it was obsolete before it was even produced.

927.M40 is almost 11,000 after the Heresy.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Probably just a mix up in dates. Because Mk II is really a terrible design.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In fact thats what it is, a mix up in dates, the blurb accompanying the Mk II equipped Alpha Legionnaire in HH Book 3 states the Mk was "largely obsolete by 972.M30."
