Hello all, I've been out of playing 40k for a while. Basically since before Necron's and Eldar's new books. I play Nurgle and Tyranids and wanted to put together a list for a 1500 pt tournament coming up. The rules are no superheavies/gargantuans, no forge world, 2 codex max. I want to run either straight CSM, or CSM with Demons as the ally. Here are the two lists I'm kicking around.

CSM - Nurgle

HQ: Lord, Terminator Armor, Burning Brand, Mark of Nurgle - 150 pts
Sorcerer, Terminator Armor, Mlvl3 - 135

Troops: 6x Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns, Rhino -174 pts
6x Plague Marines w/ 2 Plasma Guns, Rhino - 174 pts
6x Plague Marines w/ 2 Melta Guns, Rhino - 164 pts

Elite: 3x Terminators, Heavy Flamer, Chainfist - 117 pts

Heavy: 3x2 Obliterators, Mark of Nurgle - 152 pts (x3)

1475 pts total (I'll toss in some upgrades randomly to get the points right)


CSM w/ Demons ally-

HQ: Demon Prince, Demon of Nurgle, Wings, Mlvl3, Black Mace - 320 pts
Chaos Lord, Mark of Nurgle - 80 pts

Troops: 2x6 Plague Marines w/ either 2x Melta or 2x Plasma Guns, Rhino - 164/174 pts


HQ: Great Unclean One, 2x Greater rewards, Mlvl3 - 280 pts

Troops: 10x Plaguebearers - 90 pts

Heavy: Demon Prince, Flight, DoNurgle, 2x Greater Rewards, Mlvl3 - 315 pts

Total - 1423 pts (again, I'll add in some guys/wargear to get to 1500)


So. There you have it. Suggestions on anything, really, would be helpful. I only have a smattering of additional models for Chaos (20 Cultists, Bike Lord, Dark Apostle) and Demons (Soul Grinder) so if we can make it work with the stuff above that might be best

Maybe I've stayed away from termies with heavy weapons but... isn't necessary to have 5 termies to get a Reaper Autocannon/Heavy Flamer?

That being said... Lords and Sorcs are a lot better on bikes than on termie armor, I see you only have one model in bike which I wouldn't recommend fielding alone, so... If you can't get a few bikes to run with him leave him out.

If the termies with the sorc are lord are going to deep strike then I'm also doubting on the sorcerer, ML3 is awesome, but by not being on the table you can't get those extra dice to dispell, nor can you cast spells until it arrives, then you get the risk of it taking 3-4 times to arrive due to bad rolls, or even a mishapen and lose a pretty expensive unit.

The soul grinder is great and I would recommend fielding it but not with a GUO, if you can manage to get a cheap herald it would be awesome so that you can optimize your points. A herald and the plaguebearer sitting at an objective with the soul grinder with DoN behind cover.

The termies work a lot better with combi-weapons, and would help you to have them as tank hunters, 2-3 combi-meltas DS behind enemy lines are always nice

Of the things you mention, I am scared of Soul Grinders, flying Nurgle DPs, Nurgle obliterators, and GUOs.

Terminators and plague marines are too pricey considering the number of common things that can steal their lunch money.

Plague bearers are not scary, but can be annoying when I run out of time to assault them, or dont have enough ignores cover.

cultists have the benefit of being cheap.

Plague marines are too good! Stick them in a rhino and live forever!

If you have some kind of daemons dat look like spawn I'd sugest runing nurgle lord on bike with them , otherwise deamonprince of nurgle wings ,black mace and 2-3 lvls of sorcery is beasty ! 3 deapstriking termies serwed me well I use mine with meltas tho

Heavy: 3x2 Obliterators, Mark of Nurgle - 152 pts (x3)


Demons ally-

HQ: Great Unclean One, 2x Greater rewards, Mlvl3 - 280 pts

Troops: 10x Plaguebearers - 90 pts

Heavy Support: Soul Grinder, DoN, Phlegm - 180 pts (Also considered the Slannesh with a torrent here, not sure which is better in the context of the list)

Total: 1426 pts

Thoughts?

I think that is all your nastiest stuff. What powers would you go for with the psykers?

That's somewhat match up dependant, but likely biomancy with some telepathy in there
