Subject: Tactic agains Tyranids with Adepta Sororitas - Tournament (Final)

Hi Guys, My local shop have been organizing a tournament with 8 pax (3 games, each games within a week difference) with the following rules: - 2000 PTS army - Primary Detachment must be a Combined Arms Detachment - 1 Ally / Inquisition / Assassine / Hellbrute detachement optional - Must submit a 1750 PTS list and 250 PTS interchangeable between games - First Mission is Eternal War, Second is Maelstrom of War then the final is an annihilation game. Bellow is the army I submitted: Primary Detachment HQ - Celestine Troops - 6 sister with Flamer, HF and Combi Flamer in immolator w/ dozer blade and MM - 6 sister with Flamer, HF and Combi Flamer in immolator w/ dozer blade and MM - 5 sisters w/ HB, SB, Simulacrum in immolator w/ dozer blade and MM - 9 sisters w/ HB, SB, Simulacrum Fast Attack - 5 Dominions w/ 4 metagun and 1 combi melta in Immolator w/ Dozer baldes and MM - 6 Seraphim w/ 1 double hand flamer (celestine body guards) Heavy Support - Exorcist w/ dozer blade and SB - 1 penitence engine No Force Org Slop - 1 priest with melt bomb (goes with the Dominions) Inquisitional Detachment HQ - Karamazov Elits - 4 Crusader, 6 DCA, 1 Mistic and 1 Priest w/ Meta Bomb in Land Raider Redeemer w/ Psyflame Ammunition, extra MM and Dozer Blade The participant are/were 1 Adepta Sororitas (me), 1 BA, 1 IG, 1 SW, 1 Tau, 1 Eldar, 1 Chaos and finally 1 Tyranid. The Tournament Organizer did something I found pretty smart. He Made all imperium faction battle on one side and the Xenos army on the other side, in order to guaranty and final between Xeno and Imperium. My 2 first battle went pretty well. I first face the BA with a Vindicare assassin, in a field with plenty of ruins. Despite that he brought 2 Storm Raven (flyers is the AS weakness) I managed to ignore them and focus on his terminators/Mephisto/dreathnoughts and got FB, STWL, Secure 2 objectives out of 2 and LB. He only got LB with the storm Ravens. The god of dice was on my side and succeed an insane number of shield of faith (6++ save on all AS units - Vehicles include) and Karamazov was the MVP with an great amount of hit with his Orbital Strike Relay (insta-kill Mefisto with the str10 Ap1 Blast). 4 - 1 victory. The second Battle, agains SW (winner of the IG), was though. My opponent brought a scary death-star unit with warlord/4 wolf riders/power-fist or hammer for all/storm shield for all…. In addition, he field 3 squad of Long Fags w/ 5 Plasma Canon each and plenty of drop pods. I rolled very poorly and did not succeed a single shield of faith. Karamazov did not hit a single target and most of my acts of faith fails. Luckily, the Card god was with me and always draw the good objective at the good time. In addition, the Land Raider Redeemer with the Inquisitional Warband was the MVP. They took the death-star unit on they own and the LR exterminated all drop pods passenger as soon as they arrived. 11 - 5 victory. I made it to the final and now the question is how should I handle this Tyranid player? I use to play 40k back in the 4th edition and came back only recently. I haven't play again tyrannic yet in this edition and to illustrate my lack of experience with this army, I remember as a fully metal army with models looking more like the Alien movie rather that big bugs. If I well understand, this player is good, I mean very very very good. He table the Eldar on first round and made it 15 - 1 agains Chaos on second round. As much as I could see, he usually field: - 1 Harpy - 1 Exorcine - 1 Trygon - 2 Tervigon - 1 squad of Warriors - 3 biovore - 1 Tyrannofex - 2 Small squad of Termagants (I am probably forgetting something) As some of you might know, AS is not the most versatile army when it come to weapon choice. How ever, any Melta - HB/SB - Flamer can be exchange. In addition, As per tournament rules, the army I submitted is already 1850 PTS and only have space for upgrade/weapon changes…. How should I play agains him? What would you do? PS: Sorry for bad English

As a Nid player, I'd say protect your Exorcist and use as many meltas as possible. Flames are good for the Termagants, you can take flamers on your tanks, right?
Use meltas to take down the Big Bugs, he should have no cover saves unless he has Venomthropes or you are shooting through squads - kill the 'bubble wrap' (Termagants!)
If you kill the synapse - Warriors and Tervigons- his army will have to take leadership checks for Instinctive Behaviour every turn.
I would focus down the Biovores, Exocrine, and/or Warriors with the Exorcist or any other high strength ranged weapons first, as those are part of the living artillery node - they get re rolls and pinning if taken together. If you kill the warriors they lose the re rolls.
Biovores can put a ton of wounds on your infantry - especially re rolling their blasts. They are very fragile though!

Traitor! Looks like good advice. not much to add, Flamers and Meltas are very good, and you have those. I suggest you consider trying to kill off the Synapse, if you can kill one Synapse a Turn you will make it very hard for the Tyranids to win. One other tactic you might find useful is using "Tank Shock" as much as you can. Tyranids often struggle to defeat any sort of Heavy Armor. (Like a Landraider )
Good luck!

I started Nids in 4th playing almost exclusively against SoB, through to 6th... I just remember what killed me most effectively! Lol!
Those exorcists, I tell you... So brutal without cover saves.

Hi Guys, I followed your advices and won pretty easily. I had first turn and scout/moved my Dominions with 4 melt and combo melt (ignore cover) to his Excocine and got rid of it first turn (and first blood). Same turn my exorcist manager to take down the entire Warrior Squad…. lol. His face was priceless. His riposte was not impressive and only took down couple of sister. How ever his Tervigons spans something like 40 termagants at once and charge the dominion with (not kidding) something like 40 other Termagants. Only the priest survived it (Prahh the Emperahhhh). Second turn was a carnage. Thanks to Karamazov, I drop 3 x orbital strike Large Blast Ap 4 Str 6 (no scatter as I targeted my priest) on all termagants ….. 38 dead at once…. was amazing. The Exorcist took down The Tyranifex alone Celestine + Penitance Engine + 2 squad of sisters took down more than 30 termagants (5 heavy flamers and 2 flamers at once). Again, his face was priceless. All Immolators focused on the tervigons and put them to 2 wound each. He charged Celestine with his Trygon, and forgot she is I7….. Celestine and her squad took him down easily. Turn 3, Exorcist took down 1 tervigon and immos the other one. He did not have much left on the table so everything else took down the Harpy. Table him in 3 turns… Thank you again guys.

Nice work! Good target priority. Next time, he will probably try using Venomthropes or a malanthrope for cover saves - the Hive Mind adapts.
Solid win, but don't let it fool you into thinking the bugs are easy to burn. A better list and a more capable general will be rolling 2+ or 3+ cover against all your shooting... Except the flamers, of course.
