I bought the Skorne Battlegroup (Morghoul, 2x Savages and a Gladiator) and played my first game against the Cryx Battlegroup. I'm completely new to the game and the guy showing me how to play was a vet. After taking out his three Bonejacks, and only losing a Savage, my Titan engages his Helljack along with my Savage, while I have Morghoul attack Deneghra. I got a hit but I failed to exceed Deneghra's armour, she was one away from being boxed. He says he took no damage and I point out that Morghoul has Anatomical Precision. His response was that Anatomical Precision doesn't work on anything in the Cryx arsenal because it doesn't work on Jacks, which I already knew, and it doesn't work on any other Cryx because they're undead and the rules for Anatomical Precision says it has to be a Living Model. He wound up winning because I kept failing my damage roles against Deneghra and his jack took out my two warbeasts before boxing Morghoul.

Was he right? Is Anatomical Precision useless against Cryx?

If you read Anatomical Precision you'll see it only affects Living models. He's right in that it won't work against constructs (such as Warjacks) and undeads (it's said in the Undead rule that they're not living models) but deneghra (from the battlegroup) is neither of those.
It'd work against her
(there are living models in cryx, though it's not the majority)

So he was only half-lying then?

He was right that Cryx has a bunch of models that aren't affected by it, but his 'Caster was.
do note that her epic version is undead.

I'm a little mad now considering that it cost me the game and I would have won. I'll talk about it with him today.

He might not have been lying purposefully, he might not know that pDeneghra is a living model since those are very rare in Cryx (even eDeneghra is undead).

Which is why I'm going to talk to him today about it.

It's a really common mistake. 98% of cryx is undead, but some models surprise you. It was probably not a malicious mistake.

So, I talked to him like I said I would. I told him what I was told in this thread and said it was fine. He got mad at me, yelled at me and then said that ALL of Cryx are Undead, even if it doesn't say it on their cards, and that I was upset because I had lost the game.

Needless to say, I didn't play against him today. Wound up playing a Khador player instead and I had a much more interesting and fun time.

Well he's lying through his teeth. Only models with the undead rule are undead. How else can Skarre use blood magic if she has no blood?

Well , all of cryx that has the Undead symbol are undead, but things like the satyxis, skarre and prime Deneghra are still living.

He (hopefully) might be mixing up with Warjacks who always are Constructs ,even though they don't have that symbol on their cards. Battle engines do that too IIRC.
There's warcasters having Fearless and Commander base too I guess...

I'd understand if it was a mix up, but he didn't have any real reason to yell at me and accuse me of being a sore loser.

Definitely sounds like someone you want to avoid playing really... making mistakes is fairly normal, not being able to admit them when it's shown you were wrong, however, is a severe character flaw.

Next time you see him politely ask him to show you where in the rules it says that all Cryx are undead or where it says that they just don't have the undead symbol on the cards.
He won't be able to because there is no such rule. Then, as others have said ask to see his Satyxis cards and Skarre cards as well as his bane cards. Point out that the bane cards do have the undead symbol on them but the others don't. Therefore the cards without the symbol must not be undead. If he doesn't accept that fact then don't play him any more. He clearly doesn't want to play by the rules of the game.

P.S. Being a veteran doesn't mean that a person is always right. If you're not sure consult the rules and/or cards. If someone makes a claim that you're not sure of make them show you the rule in the book. If they can't show it then it doesn't play that way.

Talked with the Khador player. Apparently he does this to all new players. He'll bend the rules or outright lie so he doesn't lose to someone on their first game. He refuses to lose because it'll tarnish his reputation.

Then consider your game a win. If he confronts you then point out his rule error. Then he either has to concede defeat or admit that he cheated. Either way you win.

I love it. Doesn't want to lose to a first timer for fear of tarnishing his rep.

Is ok with cheating to win.

I feel like it should be a meme. That douche with a back ward hat maybe?

There is a word for a wargamer with an empty paint bench.

Dead.

Ok, lets not get carried away. We don't want to have to start locking threads when they've been answered. If there's nothing else to say about the topic (undead and anatomical precision), why don't we let it die in peace

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...
