Hi I am still confused and looking for clarity.

As a new eldar play I can stay bound if I chose from one of four basic COD . I am not entirley sure what a COD is. But I can:

1) take a HQ plus 2 troops from brb
2) take a farseer a warlock conclave and 3 jet bike squads and a vyper and a warwalker from codex eldar craftworld
3) take 3 guardian defenders plus farseer plus vyper plus war walker plus warlock conclave from codex : eldar craftworld
4) take 3 guardian stirmies plus farseer plus vyper plus war walker plus warlock conclave from codex : eldar craftworld

Are all these fout identicle in their premise?

I can then take formations from the codex craftworld eldar. Can I ally eldar just as a formation?. Do these eldar formations only apply if I go route 2,3, or 4?

Does 1,2,3, or 4 mean I have objective secured and I am a bound army? Or does option 1) give me more somehow?

A "bound" army is any army that is composed just of detachments. There are many kinds of detachments, but any grouping of them is fine.

So, you could take an HQ and 2 Troops for a CAD, which gives your troops in that detachment Objective Secured.

1 HQ and 1 Troop is an Allied Detachment, which also has objective secured troops, but cannot be your Primary detachment. Note, the Allied Detachment is just a name - any other detachment can by from any faction, it's just the the Allied detachment has its own composition.

A Formation is a Formation Detachment, and you must take specifically what's in the formation. Formations often have special bonuses for the models/units in the detachments.

The Eldar (and Necrons) have a special detachment that's composed of smaller detachments. For the Eldar this is the Warhost. To make the Warhost you must take at least one of the three listed formations, and then take between 1 and 10 of the auxiliary detachments. Doing so lets those models gain the special rules for their formations, AND gain the special rules for the Warhost detachment.

"Objective Secured" is a Command Benefit for the Combined Arms Detachment and the Allied Detachment only.

Other detachments, like the formations in C:EC do not have this command benefit--they have their own.

So long as each one of your models/units is a part of a detachment, your army is Battle-Forged. (Note that Formations ARE a type of Detachment--they have set units that you must take, as opposed to the CAD that has lots of flexibility.)

Ok thank you, it's so hard to actually understand what GW are getting at, I just kind of guestimate.. I find the definitions too spread out and too seldom defined.. did they write it as sucinctly as you put it anywhere on a faq?

I have an additional question: does a hemlock fighter count as a warlock conclave? I heard on a youtube channel a guy say it was but I cannot see it in the codex

Definitely no on the hemlock... it's neither a warlock, NOR a conclave. More correctly, the warlock conclave is an entirely separate unit entry in the codex
