Something that has always confused me is when I've seen Sanctified models they will sometimes have world eaters markings on them, even though they are originally word bearers.

Similarly, Zhufor has world eaters markings, even though he was from the storm lords originally.

My question is when marines from different legions start to worship khorne do they by default show world eater markings or is it some sort of mistake?

They probably take up World Eater markings if they join a World Eaters warband, such as Zhufor did.
The Sanctified are said on Lexicanum to be associated with the World Eaters too, so that may justify WE markings on them. However, I am not aware of them using WE markings in canon sources?
