Warlock Curufin and his guardian windriders. I really appreciate suggestions for improvements. I also like gallery feedback, so I put links in for that too.

Curufin and Windriders in the gallery.

Curufin detail in gallery

The new jetbikes are so much better than the old ones. Particularly the riders.

As you can probably tell by the lack of scatter lasers, I started work on this squad before the new codex came out. I added the new warlock into the mix a bit later. I just have one magnetised shuriken cannon from a wraithlord. The banner arm is a dire avenger bit, as is the pointy finger.

I have been collecting (very slowly) Eldar since before the 6e codex.

Wow, they look exceptional. And an awesome name for your Warlock as well. I'm not that good a painter myself and I'm not criticising but the only thing that looks a little off to me personally is the Warlock's sword. It looks to me like it gets lost and blended in to his robes, especially from the side angle. Like I said not a critique as such just my own personal opinion.

I am glad you like them. I nicked the name from Tolkien. Curufin is a son of Feanor.

I welcome constructive criticism. Please drop by with more.

I see your point. I did try to get the sword a different texture. Perhaps a different colour would have helped. I do try to keep the palette limited. Not sure what would work. Perhaps a glowy green, though that is quite common.

I remember him in The Silmarillion, will others in your Eldar be getting the same Tolkien treatment?

I couldn't think of another colour that might work for the sword, as I said - my painting level is quite decidedly average so I very rarely manage to come up with alternatives when critiquing other peoples models plus I don't really feel like I have the right to. Green could work, I also think a light-medium blue could also possibly work. Again just my own personal opinion,

These are phenomenal i love the little freehand thorn patterns. A really nice little detail

Also, how did you make the lance for that Dire Avenger based Shining Sprear? It looks really cool

Glad you like them!

Laser lance: the end in his hand is a starcannon from a Wraithfighter/Hunter kit. The long bit is brass rod, and the end is a dangly bit you get on the front of a war walker.

Ah it was the hand bit that was mystifying me looks really cool. Might have to pinch it for my exodites at some point

Great work all around. The only part that doesn't work for me is the missile launcher on the top of the exarch bike (looks glued on vs. part of the machine). Overall a beautiful army and great paint scheme.

I can see your point about the missile launcher. it will be hard to improve that now. suggestions will be considered!

Janovich wrote:Very very nice green/black gradients and the line art is superb!

To get the gradient:
- preshade with airbrush from black to white in 4 steps with greys in between
- glaze over green with the airbrush
- highlight yellowy green with a bristly brush
- edge highlight white.

To get thin lines for the Biel-Tan thorn patterns I find a 000 brush and some vallejo retarder is handy so the paint does not dry on the brush.

Would never have thought of a base layer with a gradient! Amazing

I have seen these already (although not the latest ones in the flesh - yet ) but I will say again, beautiful work - especially the freehand. Also glad my little pre-shading tutorial was of some use!

They just need one more vote in the gallery to get up to 5, so I can see the numbers. (click the image)

Thanks!

About dynamism:
I was thinking that the raised back foot was a better running pose that raised front foot. I wish I had done 2 with raised back feet.

Hmmm, you're right, but I think two with raised back feet would look too similar in a squadron.

On an individual basis, better with raised back feet. Taking into account the fact it's part of a squadron, better with raised front

It’s good to have a mix of poses. The running one with the lifted back leg is my favorite of the lot. Good sense of dynamic motion. The middle one (his left foot raised) seems a little off balance; not sure where in his stride he is.

Lovely job painting.

The War Walkers look great, and very effective in battle too I may say, having had their guns bearing down on the backsides of my Devastators!

Outflanking them is very handy. Even with the autarch they stayed on the bench until turn 3, which is a shame.

I started a Baharroth

It's the autarch model with lots of tweaks
- left foot points down
- right knee bent
- cloak gone (it was swooshing in a way that showed landing and decceleration, I want takeoff and acceleration like the old Baharroth model)
- bum flap cut off and stuf back on reversed to show takeoff.
- parts of the mandiblasters cut off (so does not look like mandiblasters). also allows head to tilt back more.
- end of fusion pistol removed, and a longer gun end added.
- scorpion parts of runes cut off.

to do
- greenstuff gaps
- base decor
- add 1 or 2 sets of feathery scourge wings.

This looks kickass! Love plastic Phoenix Lord conversions, and you've captured the dynamism of the old Baharroth model perfectly.

How does he look with the standard eldar jetpack wings? Just so we can see a side-to-side with the scourge wings.

The autarch model's wings are too small.

another pose with the scourge wings pitched a bit different.

I am dithering somewhat.
