I played Orks for a year and recently sold them.

I am thinking about buying Space Marines. I know they are being updated soon and was looking for Dakka Thoughts.

I really like the new 2 Gun Imperial Knight and I think something like Super Friends or Centurions would be a good direction. Maybe supported with Drop Pods or Forge World.

Elswards than waiting, what is your advice?

Thanks in advance,
Matthew

SMS are a really good army nowadays. 7th edition is a very shooty edition and boy are SMs good at that. I just got done playing a game with my brother, who plays SMs and he sided with a friend of his who was playing Necrons.

I was obliterated, mostly because of my bros SMs. Destroyed my army from afar, taking out entire Chaos Marines units piece meal with Sternguards and devastators wielding plasma cannons. It was demoralizing...as usual when I play SMs. Conceded by the end of turn 3.

If you want a good SM force, take multiple tactical squads, devastator squads with PC and LC, take Tigurious, fill out the rest of your list with various other shooty units but the units I mentioned are an auto include, really. Make Tigurious get all his powers from divination and you're good to go.

Oh, Centurions are pretty good too.

and devastators are kind of a waste of points imo

If you want to wreck face with SM and make people sad, then run Tigurius with a bunch of gravcannon centurions. I think there's some Red Scorpions librarian that really helps with that cuz he gets to just plain pick his powers.

SM are a solid middle-of-the-road army and they have enough options that they can compete against most opponents most of the time, but there are some specialized lists that will wreck your face, especially with the new Decurion Necrons and the general sadness emanating from the Eldar codex. And definitely definitely be aware of and plan for the dearth of AP3 weaponry in the current state of the game. If your marines aren't in a transport, they should be in cover.

Overall I'd just recommend playing what you like and optimizing that, because otherwise you're having less fun than you could.

Solid points indeed. My bro wants to get Centurions soon and I think I'm gonna give up playing him the moment he does lol
