Just a small question, Did the Pre Heresy Dark angels have robes to?

They told me i was crazy, that i could not win with an army list like that. 2000 points later i found out that they were right

After they reunited with Lion.

"Faith is the soul of any army; be it vested in primitive religion or enlightened truth. It makes even the least soldier mighty, the craven is remade worthy and through its balm any hardship may be endured. Faith ennobles all of the worlds the soldier undertakes be they so base or vile, and imports to them the golden spark of transcendent purpose."

Another question on the subject, Do the dark angels all have white robes or are others colours a ok to? Are trying to do a pre heresy strike team but my so far attempts on painting white has been a disaster

I'd say you could make the cloaks whatever colour you like - it's your Dark Angels company, after all!

Although white isn't too hard once you find a decent technique - there are some nice guides online for making white look easy without it being a huge pain. Generally, layering with varying intensities of slightly off-white colour and then highlighting makes for good results.

Yes. The DA of Caliban were a Knightly Order before the Lion was reunited with the Emporer. The hooded robes were part of their battle attire before they were Space Marines and much of their attire, traditions and training techniques carried over. "Descent of Angels" is the first mentioning of the DA in the HH and a great read as far as how the DA came about.

As far as painting the robes, I personally like Buypainted's Vallejo Sand and Sandy Brown color combination. Much easier to blend highlights and the darker areas in the recesses IMO than working with white.

As I understand it--the DA used to have black armor before the heresy and after--white for Deathwing. Black for Ravenwing and dark green for others post-heresy. I think--imo--dark green robes would be kinda cool for pre-heresy and during the heresy for some companies. And as someone said above...it's your army paint it how you like.

Brown robes would look great and really help the "monks/knights" image.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Keep in mind there is no "real" canon in 40k and it's reasonable to believe that with the innumerable sub-factions that existed in each legion, at least one of those variations had brown robes.

That would be cool--the brown robes--giving that warrior monk look.
