So I got bikers because I loved the Idea of T6 Bikers terrorizing the table, but they always die on me. They are such a known terror now that they get wipped the first turn or two. Now I know that can be a good thing that they are focussing there firepower on them, but i am having a hard time playing them. What is Dakka's Opinion. Should I keep trying, whats a good substitute? any advice is welcomed.

You could try a game with a unit of Nurgle Spawn instead, and see how you like them.

You don't necessarily need GW Chaos Spawn models to play them...I have friends that use toy frogs and such, with a nurgly green suff treatment. Spawn really are supposed to look chaotic, so to me its an anything goes situation modeling-wise, so long its similar sized.

I experience the same issue, my Chaos Bikers are always wiped out turn 1.

You could try and hide them on turn 1 if going second, and maybe work around some psychic shenanigans to make them even tougher? Trick them out for close combat, and Jinking becomes a non-issue too.

Nurgle bikers are actually really awesome, I can recommend them highly for a stupidly survivable unit. If you really want to be a jerk, take a level 3 sorcerer on a bike with biomancy, and try to roll Iron Arm. They'll be T9 and S7 IIRC. Haven't run into them in a little while

A friend of mine runs reaper miniature sand worms that look like the ones from dune. It's awesome so nobody cares, and they're about the right size, just a little small.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard. |

I played a game yesterday using Nurgle Bikes against Space Marines. Managed to get a single surviving bike in to assault with a tactical squad. It took him 4 rounds of assault to finish the bike off, about 40 attacks survived total. For the points that is some crazy tar pitting!

Spawn are the better taxi service for a Biker or Mounted Lords for excess LOS wounds.
I use the typical fist claw nurgle lord on a Bike exclusively and then run one or two Biker Sorcerers for Telepathy buffs. I also have 6 Nurgle Bikers, and 5 Spawn in every list. Depending the situation and deployment I keep both units close together to hop between them.
The Spawn have the benefit of extra wounds, with the downside of no Armor. The bikes have the benefit of Armor in close combat, a bit of shooting and jinks.
If i get Invisibility. It's best to cast it on the Spawn. If i get shrouding it's best to cast on the bikes for 2+ jinks.
If I'm facing a Death Star. Have then waste their low AP high strength fancy weapons on lowly FEARLESS Spawn for a few turns. If it's a squishy Shooty unit I need to silence the guns from, plow the bikes into them.
Spawn can give a fearless bump for the Sorcerer if he runs with them, while casting Mental Fortitude on the bikers or ride the Lord with them making them Fearless.
I also roll on the Crimson Slaughter warlord trait hoping for auto Shrouding on him.
Basically I know what you're saying. The bikes underperform over the Spawn nearly every time in my games. That's why you need to get both in to the right combat. I've decimated Grey Knights one game by being ultra aggressive and throwing Spawn, bikes and both Sorcerers into the same combat, wiping out the unit. Of course, their nemesis force weapons weren't active that time.... lucky me!
Also remember with bikes you get an extra full 12 inch turbo over the Spawns rerollable fleet run that you will lose out on with a bike attatched. Sometimes its fine to let the spawn run free. Hopping in and out of cover that would force a Dangerous Terrain tests on bikes. Bikes in the other hand give you a save against shooting and in CC, and you get a Champ to Challenge sacrifice if you want your lord to stay away from.
My bikes are a labor of love, I force them in to the lists for fluff reasons. Why should I have just one guy on a bike? I imagine they are a chaos biker warband rolling with their pet mutants getting rowdy and messing things up.
I use two CADS, Three HQs (beatstick Lord, 2 sorcerers on bikes) and always take at least one Bike unit, one Spawn unit and one Heldrake with points left open to take either a second unit of Spawn, or a second Heldrake depending on points limits and my opponent.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also as far as modeling spawn, out of the ONE box I've bough, after assembling two I had so many spare bits left over that with Green Stuff, spare model legs, fantasy pieces, even some tank commander sprues, I've made 8 more Spawn, plus a spare to use in case of a Spawnhood result on the Boon chart. I've ended up using every single spare head, arms, spikes, horns, tails, and tentacle bits they had and made each and every spawn completely unique and different from the last.
The only parts I have left over from the original kit are the tiny eyeballs they give you...
By far my most favorite kit i have ever bought besides the Ork Nob box as far as extra bits conversions.

I saw a gorgeous conversion using green stuff and conch shells from a dollar store terrarium kit to make really putrid beasts of nurgle: if you're doing a nurgle theme, give that a go: get some stuff from the dollar store and convert away!
