This is my starting list for X-wing. only had some games with other people's models and lists so far so not really 100% sure what to use to have a okay list.

Mauler Mithel (21)
- Expose

2 x Academy Pilot (12) (12)

Bounty Hunter (38)
- Gunner

Total 83

any idea what to use for the last 17 points? taking in to account all i have is the core box, 1 tie, 1 x-wing, 1 y-wing expansion and will be getting a firespray.

I dont like expose as it makes a fragile ship like a tie fighter more vulnerable and more expensive without a significant bonus ( only 3 shots normally).

Are you getting a second bounty hunter?

If not maybe get a named character fires pray and run a mini swarm with ties

I agree, Expose on Mauler is putting a giant target on it. It will already be a primary target over the academy Ties, but this makes it worse - you'd probably not get a chance to use Expose enough to make it worth using at least on Mauler.

If this is what you have to work with - I'd upgrade the Firespray to Boba Fett, add Expose, Experimental interface, and Mara Jade. Change Mauler to Winged Gundark or Night Beast - whichever you'd prefer, and then have 3 more academy ties. Experimental interface lets you use Expose every turn you're not stressed and Mara Jade on a large ship puts a really big stress bubble out there. The mini Tie swarm should be able to out-manuever your opponents stressed ships.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

i'm only getting one bounty hunter. would this work? i won't be getting other ships for a while so really i am stuck with the upgrades and such from the listed ships.

Winged Gundark (15)

Dark Curse (16)

Night Beast (15)

Krassis Trelix (53)
- Gunner
- Heavy Laser Cannon
- Homing Missiles

Total (99)

i can change one of the two 15's for Backstabber.

Expose is one of the worst cards in the game, just pretend that it doesn't exist. It costs a ton of points and barely gives you more of an offensive boost than spending your action on a focus token, and makes you easier to kill.

Krassis Trelix (53)
- Gunner
- Heavy Laser Cannon
- Homing Missiles

This is bad because you have two weapons with the same role, and you can only fire one per turn. Keep the HLC, drop the homing missiles. Then with the 5 points you free up you can upgrade Winged Gundark to Backstabber and upgrade Night Beast to Howlrunner.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Welcome to X-wing

From the limited pool available I'd recommend something like

Howl Runner, upgraded with Swarm Tactics (20)

Mauler Mithel, no upgrades (17)

Dark Curse, no upgrades (16)

Kath Scarlett, upgraded with Vet Instincts, Gunner, Prox Mine (47)

This list has reasonable PS with Howl Runner able to bump either of the other Ties to PS8 for shooting, along with rerolls.

Kath with Gunner can passively inflict stress for cancelled crits and still get another shot with gunner if sometihing totally evades, the prox mine was just to fill out the 3pts but can be handy on a PS9 ship.

Looks like a good list. I'd consider spending the three points on a Stealth Device for Howlrunner.

Good catch, for some reason I thought that upgrade was in the Interceptor pack rather than the Firespray

been thinking about your idea and have adjusted it for my normal play style. lots of range one pilot buffs so handed out some stealth buffs to get extra dice. Kath sits at range adding stress.

at home having a cup of tea. but more seriously i want to try some of the other characters, Howlrunner seems to be an auto include and i'm one of those people that likes to try something different. like my rough riders for my guard. when i have some more money and start fielding bigger groups of tie fighters i'm sure i'll try her.

Because every Interceptor put on the table at the moment comes fitted with one?

I like all the named TIE fighter pilots, but I'd suggest Winged Gundark's ability is probably the weakest. Night Beast, for the same price and pilot skill, has an ability which isn't far off being Push The Limit for only 1 point. Gundark is good against big ships with far too many hull points and low agility, though - Decimators spring to mind - so he's not terrible.

Mithel is good but I'd hesitate putting too many points into him. Ultimately, he's a TIE fighter that wants to be at range 1, and TIE fighters at range 1 tend to explode. Stealth Device may not do you that much good. It's better on someone who's harder to hit in the first place (like Dark Curse), because the more times someone fires at you and misses, the more times you're rolling that extra dice. I get the logic of leaving the stealth device off Curse preciesly because of his defensive ability, but the two together are worth far more than the sum of their parts.

His pilot skill is good but he still shoots after a lot of people, so Swarm Tactics - which is quite an expensive skill when you're just a TIE fighter - is only providing a fairly mediocre boost to one other TIE fighter:
~ Kath's pilot skill is better thanks to Veteran Instincts.
~ The other named TIEs are already PS5 & PS6 - so shoot before most generic pilots.
~ Boosting one of them to PS7 still won't shoot at the same time as a lot of the named PS8-9 pilots you see
~ It's still only one 2-dice primary attack, which isn't that much firepower anyway.

Kath with a gunner is nice. One suggestion - given her special ability, and the fact that you may be firing multiple times a turn, consider Marksmanship. Normally, it's not much better than a focus token, but if you're double-tapping, it's a lot better, and especially if it's throwing those lovely stress-causing criticals across the board.

Hm good point Dark Curse with an extra agility will make him even more of a pain. i prefer Veteran instincts to marksmanship. leaves me 2 points.
