Hey Dakka, this is a SkyTyrant list that I have been working on.

I'm very new to the Nids, with maybe 8 games under my belt, but I've never played this list.

I'd appreciate any advice on how to improve it, tweak it, or let me know if I did something illegal.

Also, a quick question: Can I make the SkyTyrant my warlord, or does it need to be one of the other flyrants?

The basic strategy is that the flyrants will do what they do (I wish I had the points to give them fighter ace), creating havoc on the battlefield from the air, and hopefully killing other enemy fliers.

The mucolids will deepstrike into the enemy's back field.

The tyrannofex will occupy the home objective with the tyranid warriors for synapse and a venomthrope for shrouding.

The dakkafexes, zoeys and the last venom will comprise the main maneuver element, supporting each other with synapse and shrouding, pouring out fire, hopefully from the cover of an enemy objective.

The SkyTyrant detachment will act as a screen for the dakkafex element if they are in the open, and then basically assault anything it can kill.

the Rupture cannon is one of the worst weapon in the game, the acid spray is actually a better gun and doesnt cost you an extra 30pts.

adrenal glands on the guargoyles are too expensive, keep them bareboned as they are trully mostly just there as ablative wounds for the flyrant

What he said. Also the double glands won't do much for you, but Old Adversary is a good upgrade. I think I'd want Fighter Ace on my Warlord if you can find 35 points.

Thanks for the input and advice!

I just put the rupture cannon there because the Tfex was intended to be used to camp out on my home objective. Basically just for its range. But I agree with you about acid spray, so I will likely drop the rupture cannon. I guess sometimes things look good on paper, when they suck in reality. I had good intentions, but it is kind of meh when I take a second look at it.

As for the adrenal glands on the gargoyles, I just did that for the fleet. I was thinking that fleet allowed you to charge into an assault after a run move, but now that I look at the BRB, I don't see anything that allows that. I am new to this edition, so I may be thinking of an earlier edition. If it allows me to run and charge into assaults in the same turn I will keep it, if not drop it. Can you confirm my question about fleet allowing models to charge after running? Is that the way it works, or am I just wasting the hell out of points?

The adrenal glands were for fleet for the whole unit, but it looks like I was mistaken that if they had fleet they could charge after a run move. Looks like I was thinking of a previous edition, probably before there was a run move. It's been a while.

I like fighter ace (in theory). It just seems like a gamble since the Lone Hunter +3" to synapse range is not at all worth the points. The +1 to Wounds is OK I guess for the points. Really, the only one I would want would be the Sudden Escape ability. If it was a choice like Ymgarl Factor, I would be completely sold on fighter ace. But I will definitely try it out.
