Earlier today I'm going through a friendly game at home with my dad and I'm flying Emon Azzameen. Anyway as I take a turn around an asteroid I decide its time to roll down the window and toss my proton bomb out. Our question is, am I allowed to chuck the bomb through a rock (and land the bomb on it) or is this not allowed. Cant find the answer anywhere.

By rock, I guess you mean asteroid? Asteroids don't block line of fire in X-Wing.

You can still fire but you do so less effectively (to a minimum of ineffectively).

Yes, you are allowed to do that. There is no restriction on placing bombs on obstacles (or on other ships, off the table, etc). Just be careful when placing it so that you don't move the obstacle/ship.
