Seeing the pictures of the mark 2 white scars upgrade kit (huge surprise BTW, was certain they would be mark 4) I was curious what everyone thought they would go with for the different legions. Generally, forgeworld brings out an upgrade kit tailored to a mark of armor and legion specific units in that particular type. So, Emperors Children for example have a mark 4 upgrade kit and all their spec units are also mark 4.

Dark Angels - Mark 2

I can see them getting the flat top teutonic knight helmet from the cover of Descent of Angels. It would also suit the more baroque nature of the legion.

Space Wolves

This ones really tricky. On the one hand they have been portrayed wearing mark 4 plate, in art and in the books, a lot. But, the mark 2 does look more primitive and this may suit the character of the legion more.

Thousand Sons

Mark 4. Don't know why, just don't see them having clanky armor. Imagine they will look very ornate and decorative with the Egyptian helmets.

Blood Angels

Will be amazed if they don't get mark 4. Completely suits their character as being angelic, fast and noble. So smooth and modern mark 4 fits better than clanky steampunk Mk2 or Mk3.


I ' am beginning to think that FW may have deliberately made the White Scars mark 2 because a lot of the legions already have mark 4 as their default and they might be trying to force people who want legion specific troops to buy across their whole range.

Fluff wise, the loyalists mostly should be MkII and MkIII, because Horus sorted it out that the traitors were well supplied with MkIV and the loyalists got very little, from what I remember from somewhere. The IF got some from when they fought on Mars.
