Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds
|
So ive been reading up on 1d4chan and a few other articles on the internet about alpha legion on the table top and Im having some trouble grasping them. I have fallen in love with their lore and am trying to make a 1k list that is fairly balanced but I always seem to be off by a couple points or lacking somewhere (more than one source of anti armor or anti air etc). Can anyone help? I would like it to be semi competitive at least because Id like to put some lore into my army. Thanks for any tips and advice!

Making a legion list at 1,000 points is a bit of an art form because (a) you have to have two troop choices and (b) said troop choices are generally bolters and not much else.
Probably the best way to play small games is a Pride Of The Legion force - you can take veteran tactical squads as troops, who have special weapon options
If you have a look at Forgeworld's downloads page, the Legion Delegatus consul allows you to take a rite of war without needing an expensive Praetor to lead your army.

IMHO at 1k pride of the legion is the way to go. It'll be low model count which is good if you're just starting the army and will give you a core to build around.
I personally went with terminators backed by some armour starting out. It was more effective than I thought it would have been.

Heresy armies are very hard to build at low points levels. The list really works better for bigger games (not saying it can't be done or anything, just that it's a bit more difficult).

See I prefer Orbital Assault for lower point games. Your opponents generally have issues as well with making lists at 1k so bolter spam does work to a degree, especially with banestrike rounds. You wont see as many exotic transports or if you do, you wont see much else. This assumes you will not be playing against IK, although there is a fix.
Commander- cheap council who give the ROW. Give him whatever gun or weapon and Cataphract armor.
Terminator squad- Plasmablaster- or 5 combi meltas- power fists.(figure out a role and arm accordingly, I don't know your meta).
Two TAc squads in Drop pods. Melta bomb on sergeant or Powerfist in more light AV environments. 185 plus sergeant upgrades.
Support Squads Cheapest squads in the army. 135 for 5 flamers and a drop pod.
Depending on your meta, either plasma squads or melta squads, or if you face hordes, charger squads. I use flamer squads as well. There is no normal T4 infantry that isn't threatened by this squad, including Terminators and jet bikes.(wiped both squads repeatedly in games).
We are already short on points, it would be this or rhinos. So it comes down to units starting on the board or units dropping from the sky. I am not too worried by flyers. Lascannons to kill a marine? Sure go for it. OPlus remember that in Legion, you don't actually have to get out of the drop pods thus you have pillboxes to shoot from.
Alternatives to this are not bringing termies and taking another squad in drop pods and some change.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |
