A small game to test our lists for an upcoming tournament.

I show up with:

Cast of players (2 kiss, 2 Caress, Kiss on troupe master, Mask of Secrets on Shadowseer and Starweaver)
Hero's Path (Solitaire, Death Jester, Shadowseer)
Aspect Host (10 Hawks, 10 Warp Spiders, 5 Reapers)

My opponent shows up with
Orikan and 10 footslogging warriors
5 immortals
2 annihilation barges
2 C'Tan (1 Deceiver and another)
6 Tomb Blades

Mission: Scouring
Deployment: Diagonal

I see his army and think I am in trouble. I deploy, I let him deploy and infiltrate my Heroes between 18" and 24" along his edge. At this point he is wondering what's up but is fully confident in his Necron's ability to get rid of 3 pansy space elves.

Turn 1:
- The Reapers embark in the Starweaver and move into a favorable firing position.
- The Warp Spiders leap forward 18" with a Warp Jump
- The Hawks Skyleap into reserve
- The Troupe runs forwards into some ruins
- Solitaire stays put in cover.
- Shadowseer and Death Jester move in optimal range.

Psychic Phase, both Veil of Tears go up and I cast Laugh of Sorrows at his HQ's squad causing 7 wounds, killing 4 warriors. At that point my opponent is surprised at how his LD 10 came back to haunt him.

Shooting Phase:
- The Reapers kill 3 Tomb Blades
- The Starweaver shoots the Necron warriors, a few wounds but all saved.
- The Death Jester fires at the warriors, kills one. My opponent needs an 8. Rolls an 8. Lucky for him, he was 2" from a table edge. Upon realizing the DJ's ability to pick the direction when he flees his face changes to a look of relief at his success.
- Shadowseer tries unsuccessfully to pin the squad.
- Warp Spiders are a bit too far to shoot safely so they move sideways a bit

Assault phase:
- Spiders move back further to safety near the troupe.

Necron turn:
Lots of frustration he moves his C'Tan Forward, repositions his annihilation barges, moves his tomb blades forward. The immortals stay back on an objective.
Basically almost everything fails to hit because of Veil of Tears and Flickerjump. I lost maybe 1 player and 1 spider.

Turn 2:
- The Swooping Hawk deepstrike near an annihilation barge and one objective. They drop the grenade pack on the immortals 2 wounds, 2 save.
- The troupe gets on an objective inside the ruins and remains in cover for now.
- The Warp Spiders move forward to try and flank one of the C'Tan.
- The Solitaire gets the green light and leaps 12" forward towards Orikan and the warriors
- The Starweaver/Reapers move a bit but remain safely at the back near an objective.

Psychic Phase
Both Veil of Tears go up.
I cast Fog of Dreams on Orikan & Warriors

Shooting Phase:
- The Hawks throw a haywire grenade at the Barge and miss, they battle focus into cover on the objective.
- The Reapers finish of the rest of the Tomb Blades
- Death Jesters take potshots at the Warriors but no dead.
- The Warp Spiders are not quite in range so they are stuck wasting a turn.

Assault:
- Warp Spiders move closer to their target
- The Solitaire charges Orikan and the warriors killing 2 (Lucky Reanimation protocol)

Necron turn
- Immortals keep camping.
- One barge moves on the Warp Spiders killing 3.
- One Barge turns on the Hawks killing 4
- The C'tan move towards the troupe cautiously and fire at the troop killing 4 Harlies and the DJ. I only have the Shadowseer and the Troupe Master left at this point.
- Orikan and the warriors keep fighting the Solitaire but lose by 2, fail their LD test and get sweeped. Solitaire consolidates towards the Immortals.

Turn 3:
- Solitaire moves towards the Immortals and will require an 11" charge.
- The lone Jester and Shadowseer move forward in the void left by Orikan and the warriors.
- The Warp Spiders move into optimal firing position.
- The Troupe master and Shadowseer move away from the C'tan behind some LOS blocking terrain.
- The Reapers move slightly to get a good firing angle.
- The swooping hawk leap out of cover (3 die in the process)

Psychic Phase: Veil of Tears fail on the troupe, The Shadowseer casts Stealth/Shrouded on troupe instead.

Shooting Phase:
- The reapers kill one barge
- The Hawks throw an haywire grenade at the other barge and cause a glance
- The lone DJ and SS run forward into cover.
- The Starweaver shoot at the C'Tan but no wounds
- The Warp Spiders land a whoopin' 12 wounds on one of the C'Tan killing it.

Assault Phase
- The Hawks assault and kill the last barge
- The Solitaire makes his 11" charge and slams into the Immortals but somehow does not kill a single one.
- The Warp Spiders move back so the other C'tan cannot charge.

Necron turn:
The C'Tan moves closer to the spiders and fires killing 2.
The immortals continue their fight with the Solitaire and lose by 2, fail their LD and get promptly sweeped.

Turn 4:
- Hawks retreat onto their objective.
- Starweaver retreat onto their objective
- Lone Jester on another objective
- Solitaire Blitzes towards the C'tan but rolls a total of 7 on 4 dices :( (FAIL)
- The Spiders move into position
- The troupe moves back into the ruins to reclaim the objective

Screw the psychic phase
The Spiders fire killing the last C'Tan.

Total tally:
Necron force wiped to the last.
Harlies/Eldar holding 4/6 objectives

Losses:
5 Warp Spiders, 7 Hawks, 4 Harlies

Always love to see the Harlies playing well. If you go up to 1850 what would you add? Do you find the reapers are worth their points?

Never argue with an idiot you just lower yourself to their level.

I'm always surprised by how well Harlequins match up against Necrons, and Eldar are a fantastic compliment to them.

Reapers are always worth their points

Ignoring Jinks, S5/S8 AP3 at 48" Can fire on the move? They are great. Their weakness is assault so putting them in an open top transport gives them a mobile firing platform. In the 2nd game of the tournament, the popped a Razorback from across the map, a Whirlwind and through awesome dice work, one-shotted a Stormraven (The other guy could not believe it), The Reapers fire (miss), re-roll thanks to Inescapable accuracy (1 hit), roll to pen (5), damage chart (6 immobilized), he rolls a (2) the flyer crashes. For 180 points for a decked-out squad? It's great.

At 1850 it would depend. I might not keep this list as a base. This list was a blind-date team tournament where people are randomly matched up. I ended up teaming with a Tyranid and we finished 3rd overall which isn't bad. Nobody expected the Circus Freaks to make it that far up the rankings.

Dark Reapers are good at what they do but mostly they are anti MEQ without much mobility and low RoF. With flyers not being so prevalent amynore I don't think they are really worth it.

I respect your opinion, maybe you did not come across someone who fields them efficiently yet. Maybe that opinion will change but never ever let them live.

They are great anti-MEQ but also great anti-eldar. Jetbikes get munched for Breakfast. A squad of Reapers in an Aspect host will kill an average of 6.4 bikes/turn.

Starshot upgrade makes them anti-transport/skimmer

An open-top vehicule like a Venom or Starweaver can help with their mobility while allowing them to fire out the vehicule.

After the last tournament, all my opponents learned to fear the Reapers.
