Hi dakka
Is there a miniatures/board game where I can move figures say 4-6 through a dungeon and the enemy
is controlled by the game in a random manner.
Would like to collect anyone's figures to play with.
Hope I get some good news here !!!!!

Here you go.

The term for what you're asking for is "Solo Wargaming". Two Hour Wargames is probably the leader in solo-capable wargames and they have titles for almost any genre. If you want to get a feel for the THW "reaction" system that is the core of most of their games, you can download a couple of their free rulesets here:

There are probably others but I can't recall them offhand.

Any Co-Op style game can be played solo as they usually have a set of rules that dictates how the dungeon and it's inhabitants react to your heroes. A classic example would be Warhammer Quest. Zombicide, while not a dungeon crawler, is also great for solo play. They are starting a kickstarter on Monday called 'Zombicide: Black Plague' which brings the game into the medieval setting with swords and sorcery. It's not hard to imagine an expansion, or a 'Season 2' of Black Plague that focusses on a dungeon crawl more specifically. It's not available yet, but this is a unique opportunity to get involved with a game from the very beginning.

The D&D big box games seem to have solo mode and tile-laying, so you're exploring unknown areas as you build the map.

Temple of Elemental Evil, recently released, has a solo mode:

And Ravenloft:

Yep, these games seem like exactly what you're looking for. In each (they're all compatible), the core mechanics are the same:
- The dungeon gets laid out at random as you explore further
- monsters and events are all controlled by cards, detailing what to do and when
- most missions are designed for 2-5 players, but it is easy enough to run multiple heroes yourself
- the tiles, heroes, monsters and bosses in each game are compatible

The boxes all have a wide selection of minis, but there are loose themes to each. Ravenloft and Drizzt have a lot of undead stuff, ToEE has a large number of elemental/cultists types and Ashardalon has a number of orcs, demons and dragony stuff. They're all good value, and very easy to expand with other sets or your own content/minis. I recently bought Wrath of Ashardalon, and am loving it so far.

More info on them here, including painted pics and extra content:

Yeah, Advanced Heroquest is the best, but sadly OOP.

Other posts here are good, but here is a sci-fi one.

Gears of War boardgame. It's for 1-4 people, so you can play solo. Also, since it's cooperative, there is no reason why you couldn't play with up to 4 characters by yourself. Just put the cards on the table for each character. There are minis, bad guys controlled by the game mechanics, and you build a "dungeon" map randomly each game, which adds more variation.

My wife and I enjoy this game.

Yeah, gears of war was really a 1 gm, 1 player max game imo, descent is similar in that the level of cooperation needed to win leads to the most competent and competitive player dictating the other players moves.

Simple:
1) Buy the Bloodbowl game off of Steam.

2) Buy a physical copy of blood bowl.

3) Make a Orc VS Human match in the game

4) Set up and move the figures in the physical game according to how they move in the game!

5) ???

6) Profit.

Really, though, and I don't mean this derogatively, why would you want a miniature game you play solo? Surely pretty much any dungeon crawler RPG on the computer would be more satisfying, would it not?

My favourite solo comparable dungeon crawler is the supernatural western Shadows of Brimstone.

It's not for everyone as the minis need assembly (and a little soft on detail) but it already has two big box sets and a variety of small expansions will start to be released later in the year.

I haven't broken this one out yet - I think I decided to wait until I received everything from the KS first?
