I'm starting an Ulthwe Eldar army and I'm browsing through pictures to find inspiration. I found the following link and these paint jobs are absolutely stunning; http://cookeh-40k.tumblr.com/post/53574098753/craftworld-ulthwe-eldar-by-dave-roberts-x. My question is concerning how the black gradients were achieved. I'm guessing the model was painted black then white was air brushed to bring out spots where light would touch the model. Is it possible to get these results with dry brushing or is air brush the only way?

That was airbrushed. However, I did something similar on my Harlequins using drybrushes and washes, so it's certainly doable. Just use successively lighter greys applied on smaller areas, using black washes to tie it together if need be.

It's air brush, too much of it imo, too smooth looks fake. You can certainly achieve the effect by lightly dry brush in a cross hatch pattern with a soft brush. I use black primer, lightly wash of abandon black, heavy dry brush of vellejo German grey, lightly of eshin grey, mechanicum grey or codex grey, highlight with adminstrum grey.
