So when I was young "Star Blazers" was on television. It was cool, and having watched it again recently, it is still cool: the awesome, sometimes funky, music, the art in general, if not consistent, awesome. And, it had a plot.
Star Blazers was an adaptation of the Japanese anime Space Battleship Yamato or Space Cruiser Yamato and recently it has been remade as Yamato 2199. You can check out a trailer for it on Youtube and the art is stunning, beautiful. I have yet to see an episode but it looks a lot like the old series with some changes. I have seen the live action movie which I liked in some ways but this new anime looks phenomenal. Anybody seen it?
What this post is about: fleet or ground forces battles with the old or new ships/personnel. I know there is a Star Blazers Fleet Battle System website and fleet miniatures are available. Bandai makes models. BeAfraid mentioned in another thread availability from a Hobby Link Japan. (I think for models). I have found through Amazon listings for Yamato 2199 on Blu ray.
I'd like to read what you've found as far as miniatures/rules/videos, and any other interesting things you've found out.

Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199 is probably one of the greatest of hidden/unknown Sci-Fi classics in existence.
You can watch the entire series online (I know Funimation had it for a while, but there are other sources).
The Space Battles remain some of the most palpable depictions I have seen. They do take a few liberties, but overall they do an incredible job with the battles, ships, and other scene elements.
The episodes with the Space Carriers and the Hyperspace Submarines remain the most iconic scenes from both the original and the new series, AND both are homages to the sinking of the Actual Yamato and her sister ship the Musashi (sunk by a submarine, I think. I know it was at least damaged by one). The series does homage to several WWII Naval Battles.
And, it uses the iconic original series ships, but with incredibly detailed additions to the ships showing operational details and functions that one would expect to see on such ships (such as how they are berthed, or how the fighters are launched from the carriers, and so on).
And the cinematography remains breathtakingly beautiful.
The melding of CGI and traditional animation is seamless (technically, the whole series is CGI, done with Maya. They have a filter used on the characters to give them a more 2D rendered appearance).

I am not sure what you are asking for i buy the Yamato 2199 to use as (Battle) cruisers in Battlefleet Gothic, there are the big ship models as well as the small size ship models, haven't seen any ground forces as the Yamato doesn't have any as far as i know.

Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199 does have some 1/144 and 1/72 scale Gamillas ground forces (a tank, an APC, and combat robots), but that is about all.
The original series had some Earth Forces (Tank, Infantry), but I am not sure if they still make them.
The Earth Forces were only used in the Comet Empire Arc, and only appeared during an attack on Mars.
During the Gamillas/Iscandar Arc, the Earth was too messed up to have any ground forces (The Yamato was it, and the Earth was nearly dead, with humanity down to a few million people).
"Star Blazers" was really only about Space Combat.
And, the newer show currently only has 1/2400 (or maybe 1/1200) scale kits available, if I remember correctly. They only make a larger scale Yamato for that series.
But the smaller kits (with the ships being six to eight inches long) are FAR MORE detailed than the originals, and some enterprising hobbyist has made some etched brass detailing parts for a few of the ships.
I will look up a link from Hobby Link Japan for the newer kits.
MB Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, I got the link:
https://www.hlj.com/scripts/hljlist?GenreCode2=Sci&Word=Yamato+2199&x=0&y=0
They have a 1/500 scale Yamato, and a 1/1000 scale individual and sets of ships from the UN Earth Force Fleet, and 4 sets of Garmilas/Gamillas ships.
The larger Space Carriers are all separate (there are four different carriers, three from the "Sink the Yamato" episodes, and one from an Easter Egg scene where we see the Gamillas attacking the Comet Empire Fleet - and destroying it - in one of the later episodes). It would be nice if they re-did the Comet Empire ships from the new series as well, but the older ones remain the more detailed kits from that series, and are the same scale (1/1000) as the newer ones.
With the apparent ranges in the show, you could have a "space-scale" of roughly 2x to 5x that of the ships (1/2000 to 1/5000) and have the games work roughly as they are portrayed in the series (technically, if you had a large enough area, you could do it at 1:1 - given a 20x20' playing area).

As you mentioned, this place seems to offer quite a bit:

I've been tempted a few times, as I was a big fan, watching this on TV back in the early 80's!
No idea on how good the game is though...

Thanks all for the information and the links. There's a lot to consider and how to go about it. Will be looking quite a bit.
