Did anyone else get a notification button to get Windows 10 or do I have a virus/malware? Is this the right forum section to post on?

I got the notification too. I think this sort of topic would be more in the Off-topic forum though since it doesn't directly pertain to video games.

I wish I could click it away or something though.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I rerad about this elsewhere.

Its free so its not a bad offer, even if its a new MS OS, which means you are getting the alpha. At least you are not paying for the alpha.

I am thinking of getting a OEM Win7 just to qualify.

Note the downsides though:

and +1 on moving this to Off Topic. I think it needs a heads up, Mi9crosoft usually charges a lot of money for a new OS, upgrading for free is a heads up some in Dakka will want to know about.

Hmm not really liking that for the Home edition updates are automatic... then again I usually go for the pro edition if I can.

Having to rely on separate DVD playback software isn't too bad since I usually use something like VLC for playback.

- To have choice over updates you have to have Win 10 Pro, that mean you need to update from Win 7 Pro or Win 7 Ultimate or the equivalents for Win 8.

- Feature deprecation section:
If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, or Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center and you install Windows 10, Windows Media Center will be removed.
Watching DVDs requires separate playback software
Windows 7 desktop gadgets will be removed as part of installing Windows 10.
Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates.
Solitaire, Minesweeper, and Hearts Games that come pre-installed on Windows 7 will be removed as part of installing the Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft has released our version of Solitaire and Minesweeper called the “Microsoft Solitaire Collection” and “Microsoft Minesweeper.”
If you have a USB floppy drive, you will need to download the latest driver from Windows Update or from the manufacturer's website.
If you have Windows Live Essentials installed on your system, the OneDrive application is removed and replaced with the inbox version of OneDrive.

As I said, no downsides

2 Things to keep in Mind;

1 - Windows OS' tend to be super terrible right after release. I mean, they're often quite terrible in general, but much worse after release.

2 - Microsoft now charges yearly subscription fees to use their latest Microsoft Office software. So is Windows 10 free, or just free for one year? Would anyone really be shocked when summer of 2016 Microsoft starts charging for their 'free' upgrade ?

*takes off conspiracy hat*
