So I just picked up the Bloodmire Legion box for the Undead army. Can any undead players recommend a good next step after I get a few games under my belt?

In what sense? Recommending the next things to purchase, or...?

What units to expand on and what armies make great allies with the Undead.

If you don't have a couple, get at least 2 Necromancers. Dark Surge is brilliantly useful, and I believe Necros are the cheapest way to bring it. It's not just about charge range either; use your normal move to get into a flank arc then Dark Surge into the side. Use Nimble Flying units to go over an enemy, then DS into their back! It's awesome, and perfect opportunity for letting out Fiendish Evil Laughter!

Other than that, I hear Werewolves are nice. Looking at that army, though, you've got basically a full army, so it's less about adding stuff now and more about what you want to be able to swap in and out.

Since you're in the US, grab a couple of boxes of cheap Wolfen from Miniature Market with cheap ($6 flat rate) shipping. They're decent prepaints with great sculpts to get yourself a good number of extra Werewolves (and the character that is in the KoW2 Undead list) and are also easy to paint right over if you don't like the prepaints' existing... paint.

As for allies, it depends on what you want. Assuming you're willing to use Neutral as well as Evil factions, Kingdoms of Men might be worth a look. They bring guns and faster cavalry, some reasonably fighty infantry and, of course, cannon (though I don't know how cannon will stack up against Balefire Catapults in the new rules). Ogres might be nice too, with some tougher and hard-hitting units.

...and you can use an incredibly wide variety of kits for them, as well.

Abyssal Dwarfs would bring some decent artillery to your table. (The Banefire catapult is... not quite useless...)

My twopennyworth says buy multiple units of 10 skeleton archers, they can be quite annoying or act as speed bumps...
and every chance you get to test your opponents nerve counts in your favour.

I live in the STL area so I shall have so swing by there some time and pick those up. Sadly they no longer carry KOW like they did when they had a separate store front.

Thank you all for the input.

The Balefire is better than the average artillery's statline.

But not with my dice.

I will admit, the Balefire isn't that bad... but I'm used to the Ironbelcher (and always take a Warsmith) after that... pretty much every other artillery bit on the table is a come down.

And is worse when I am the one on the wrong side of the Ironbelchers. (My girlfriend and i share our dwarf armies.... those are my cannon that are clearing my revenants off of the table....)
