I'm heading out to the ATC soon, and I need to know if anyone knows the answer to this. I emailed them and haven't heard back yet.

for the ATC tourney you may only have 2 sources, I want to run the Admech War Convocation formation...

Is it one source since its only one formation? or is it 3 sources as it pulls from 3 codexis?

How do other tourneys handle this too?

from the ATC website

Army Building Guidelines:
1850 Points
Battleforged Armies Only
No Escalation entries may be used.
No Imperial Armour entries may be used.
No Warzone: Damocles, Valedor or Damnos entries may be used.
All Codex Lords of War entries are Allowed.
All Dataslates are allowed, physical and/or digital. You MUST be able to provide a copy of the dataslate.
Players are allowed two Detachments total in their army, using the guidelines below.
0-1 CAD (Detachment), with no repeated detachments in the army.
Example – You may not selectively include units within one Combined Arms Detachment from both Codex: Tau and Codex Supplement: Farsight Enclaves, despite them being within the same Faction per the Detachment creation rules in the 40k Rulebook.
Exception – Units that are added to various Factions by means other than the primary or supplemental Codex are exceptions (i.e., Dataslate Characters, etc.).

REMINDER/NOTE: As per the MRB, under "Allied Detachment", All units chosen must have a different Faction to any of the units in your Primary Detachment. Currently, the only Faction that may include an Allied Detachment that is the same Faction as the Primary Detachment is Space Marines with different Chapter Tactics. For example, an army may not be composed of a Tau Empire CAD and Farsight Enclave Allied Detachment, or vice versa.
0-2 Codex Specific Detachment (Detachment), with no duplicate Codex Specific Detachments allowed.
0-1 Allied Detachment (Detachment) may be taken in the army.
0-1 Formation (Detachment) may be taken in your army.
A Detachment (or Formation) consisting of multiple Formations, such as Decurion or The Champions of Fenris, will only count as a single Detachment.
0-1 Fortifications may be taken using the following guidelines: If one of your detachments allows for a fortification, you may include up to one in your army. You must use the rules from the Stronghold Assault book, and may include fortification upgrades. Only the following fortifications are legal choices for ATC: Aegis Defence Line, Imperial Bastion, or Skyshield Landing Pad.

What part of this is limiting you to two sources?

Its 3 sources but judging by this bit here

0-1 Formation (Detachment) may be taken in your army.
A Detachment (or Formation) consisting of multiple Formations, such as Decurion or The Champions of Fenris, will only count as a single Detachment

Its a formation consisting of multiples, so it counts as 1, even though its 3 sources (3 codexes)

It sounds ok to go to me, but you might want to check with the organizer

Its a fun formation though

In an attempt to answer your question, two detachments does not mean two sources. Looks like, according to their guidelines, the Admech War Convocation will count as just one of your two detachments. No one else on your team will have assess to any skitarii, cult machanicus, or imperial knight units. You will have used your 1 formation slot so you won't be able to include a second formation and you will have also used the oath-sworn codex specific detachment for the imperial knights so you won't be able to include another one of those as well.

Those restrictions kind of screw Tyranid and Ork players.

How so?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

You can't take more than one detachment of the same faction other than SM, which have to have different Chapter Tactics. This means Nids and Orks are stuck with either one detachment or they have to take a non-faction ally if they want more than one detachment. That's a huge limit for Nids, who have no reasonable allies, and for Orks who are designed take multiple mirror detachments.

Incorrect. You can not take an Allied Detachment of the same Faction as your primary. A nid army can be legally composed of a CAD and Hive Fleet detachments.

So, it's just the Sisters of Battle that are screwed, not the Nids or Orks?

Not exactly. The only difference between the ATC and a normal Battle-forged list, is 1) a restriction on how many of a given detachment you can take, and 2) a slight restriction on sources.

As such the following are all legal:

Tyranid CAD, Hive Fleet Leviathan
Ork Horde, Great Waaagh!
SoB CAD, Space Wolves Allied Detachment
Farsight Enclaves CAD, Tau Firebase Hunter Cadre

Note: some of the formation/detachment names might be slightly off, but you get the idea.

The Space Wolf Allied Detachment is not in the SoB codex, so my point is valid.
