Hi everyone~! I've just got my 'dex and I'm trying to build a somewhat competitive list that will be facing an Eldar wraith host thing and chaos space marines (I think). The idea for us three players is to build up a new army and get it painted within a month, then have a sort of mini-tournament. I'm planning to use the detachment from the book: HQ Librarian [135] - Level 3 Psyker Troops Terminator Squad [195] - Psycannon - Daemonhammer Elites Purifier Squad [284] - Six Nemesis Force Halberds - Four Incinerators Fast Attack Stormraven Gunship [200] - Twin-Linked Multi-Melta - Twin-Linked Lascannon Heavy Support Nemesis Dreadknight [220] - Personal Teleporter - Heavy Incinerator - Heavy Psycannon - Nemesis Daemon Hammer Nemesis Dreadknight [220] - Personal Teleporter - Heavy Incinerator - Heavy Psycannon - Nemesis Daemon Hammer ~~~~~ Total of 1254! So a little bit over... Alternatively with interceptors instead of purifiers: HQ Librarian [135] - Level 3 Psyker Troops Terminator Squad [195] - Psycannon - Daemonhammer Fast Attack Interceptor Squad [276] - Eight Nemesis Force Halberds - Two Incinerators Stormraven Gunship [200] - Twin-Linked Multi-Melta - Twin-Linked Lascannon Heavy Support Nemesis Dreadknight [220] - Personal Teleporter - Heavy Incinerator - Heavy Psycannon - Nemesis Daemon Hammer Nemesis Dreadknight [220] - Personal Teleporter - Heavy Incinerator - Heavy Psycannon - Nemesis Daemon Hammer ~~~~~ Totals up to 1246!

Looks good except you can't have 10 CC weapons on the purifiers since 4 will be swapped for incinerators.

Oops I missed that. Thanks! Guess that frees up 8 points. Lol. Something I should ask actually~ I was thinking of having the Purifiers come in on the Stormraven. Is this a good idea or would it be better to try and Deep Strike them turn 1?

Yep, slamma is right. Purifiers cannot deepstrike so they should ride in the stormraven. Combat squad them for more warp charges too.

Oh how did I miss that? Thanks a heap guys. I guess I got confused because the regular power armoured troops can deep strike...
Also re-calculated the points, I have a spare 11 points. Any ideas? I was thinking a beacon for the Stormraven?

You might stick a hammer on each Dreadknight for some Instant Death against Monstrous Creatures. Or possibly Meltabombs on a couple Characters for additional anti-vehicle. I wouldn't bother with a beacon on the Stormraven, because any Deep Striking units will be rolling to arrive on turn 1, and the Stormraven can't roll to come in until turn 2.

Ah yeah okay. Cool. Overlooked the fact that Force came with the melee weapon upgrades. Thanks

Looks ok.
Pretty low model count, but I guess thats what you're going for.
Personally I'd drop the one Dreadknight for a dreadnought, and an inquisitor ally with some henchmen to go into that stormraven.

Really? A Dreadnought? It doesn't have the Dreadknight's mobility, firepower, melee prowess, or durability. It costs 25 points more than a Space Marine Dreadnought and all it gets for it are what amounts to Grey Knight Chapter Tactics, which they shouldn't be charged for. And Sanctuary isn't even useful on a Dreadnought, being as it can sit in cover for a 4+ Cover Save instead of rising Perils for a 6++. The Dreadknight is the most cost-effective unit in the Codex, while the Dreadnought is on the other end of the spectrum.
And he already has Purifiers to go in the Stormraven, so I don't see how leaving them out dry to stick Inquisition in the Stormraven would help.
His Model Count is about as good as the Grey Knights are capable of with their current Codex.

I dont disagree. I said imo, the model count is too low. 17 models in total. In the beginning of the game the enemy will have 2-3 units to fire on, untill the stormraven arrive. I think thats too little even for GK.

Hm, outside of what I've listed, I don't have many models for GK. I have another 10 power armoured grey knights (unbuilt), but that's it. No dreadnought, no inquisitor unfortunately, had to drop quite a bit of cash to pick up the army (still have to pick up the second dreadknight, though it's paid for).

One thing you might consider is replacing the Purifiers with Interceptors. You'd have two Combat Squads that could jump around the table giving the Dreadknights some backup, and it would give you a bit more mobility for holding objectives. 284: Interceptors: +5 Interceptors, 2 Incinerators, 7 Halberds, Hammer. If you want an Inquisitor, an easy way is to simply start with any human model then start adding whatever looks cool that fits the Ordos of your Inquisitor. I have an odd number of Terminators because one of mine is an Ordos Malleus Inquisitor in Terminator Armor with a Nemesis Daemon Hammer and Psycannon (80 points). I also have an odd number of PAGK because I made one of them an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor in Power Armor with Rad Grenades, and a Force Sword @ Psyker ML1 (68ish points if I remember correctly). Warbands are expensive ($$$). I would check the used minis bins at game stores for other models that have the right look and weapons to be Inquisitorial Warbands. For instance, my Crusaders are Warriors of Chaos with all of the chaos symbols shaved off, and My Ministorum Priests are a couple Sisters of Battle priests that were in a bag of used Grey Knights for some reason. They're technically conversions using entirely GW materials (Warhammer Fantasy is still GW, but is cheaper than 40k), so no tournament should give you any trouble over it unless they total snobs.

Might have a poke around for something to base an inquisitor and crew off.
I'm interested in having interceptors, though losing fearless and an extra attack might hurt. The mobility however is welcome
Good catch, thanks.

You need halberds on the terminators. The S bonus is too good to pass.

Problem is just fitting everything in!
Also I've built my terminators with swords + hammer... kinda regretting it now.

They are not necessary. With swords with hammerhand are still wounding MEQ on 2s. Mathematically falchions are better (the math is somewhere on this site), but they suffer from costing more points. I've been testing just using swords and I prefer them much better. It may not seem like much, but those points saved are worth it. Don't worry, they can be easily ripped off or just kept. Or just do what I do and buy more terminators

Only wound on 2s hammer hand. I would rather for 8 points make the unit reliable without needing a power.

8 points doesn't seem like much but if you run multiple squads they add up.
Most of the time is also depends on your meta. If you face more MC and vehicle heavy armies then maybe a halberd is worth it. If you run hordes then the added strength is not necessary.

Well I'm going to be facing eldar of all varieties (though the player is building/painting his wraith host formation specifically for this) and chaos space marines that aren't vehicle heavy.

I like your list so far, I just got some grey knights recently as well and my lists are pretty similar to your own. a couple of suggestions.
Purifiers are amazing but they need a way to get up the board, your stormraven idea isn't bad, but I was thinking of putting them into a rhino. They can witchfire out of the top as well as fire their special weapons, they also have less to fear from their transport getting destroyed because they are fearless so they will never be pinned if it explodes. Think about combat squadding them and buy them a second rhino and really put the hurt on things.
Second for your stormraven, I would seriously consider switching out the lascannon for an assault cannon if you are running it with a multimelta. gives more shots, can still bust armor and compliments the MM's range better. you still have your stormstrike missiles for long range.
I'd drop one of the weapons on your dredknights. They are tough, they are amazing, but they pay through the nose for those weapons and most of the time it ends up being overkill on most of the units they are going against. you want to get the dredknight into close combat to keep it safe against all your opponents shooting, and blowing the unit up before you can even charge means you have to face another shooting phase where every gun is targeted on it.
