If you are looking for 40k, the Games Workshop at highgate village just down Kingsway from Metrotown (Burnaby/New West direction) is a good place. Can play 40k any day of the week, there are four gaming tables, plenty of GW terrain, and almost always someone there for a game. And if there isn't, the staff is usually more than willing to play you.

I personally go down every Monday, and now that the mordheim campaign is wrapping up, will start bringing my 40k again.

They also just started a Sanctus reach and a shield of Baal campaign, so there will probably a lot more variety of armies to play for the next few months, too.

I've been to Strategies before, there's usually a free table available through the day. Only downside is they require fully painted armies to play, which can be a hassle while struggling to paint up a force.

Typically I avoid GW like the plague, but the Burnaby location seems to have a solid following. And it isn't smack dab in a mall, which is nice. I may have to make the skytrain trip out. Would be nice to find something closer to Van though.

Another one to have a look at might be CHOP! gaming (search on Facebook). They place just across the seabus on lower Lonsdale once per month. Not certain how many 40K people there are consistently though.

From what I can see of Chop! online they are mostly Warhammer Fantasy. There is a gaming shop not far from the place they meet where I think they may have more regular 40k from the looks of it.

Strategies is great! Only thing is they only have gaming events on the weekend, and rotate the games they support, so as they did a7-8 week 40k campaign in the spring, I don't know when it'll come around again. The guys at this shop are all really great, and so I'd encourage you to give them your business whenever you can. I'm told if you call ahead on the day, so long as they're not using the tables to receive an order, you can go in and have a game if you've got an opponent lined up.

Once I retool my marines with the new codex here, I'm interested to check out the Burnaby GW.

There's another place called Imperial Hobbies in Richmond that has a ton of stuff, and oodles of modeling stuff you wouldn't find at a typical gaming store, but I don't know how much happens in terms of in-store gaming. They don't have a lot of room left in that place.
