Hello all,

As the title suggests, I'm trying to highlight black with blue. I'm trying to give it a more comic book feel to it. Thing is, I'm not sure what blues to use. I'm hoping to do an edge highlight followed by an extreme edge highlight. I use citadel paints so the black in question is Abaddon Black. Thanks!

My preference is Dark Reaper, then Fenrisian Grey. Looks like this:

Edit -- changed picture to one that shows off more of the blue.

It looks really good, but I'm actually looking for a more defined blue. I wish I could find a picture as an example but I'm having trouble finding one.

Edit: This seems to be a half decent example on the bolter

Do you mean more TRON-like? If so, use a nice, vibrant blue like Temple Guard blue as your top highlight. I don't think you need a layer in between, but you could always try Kantor or McCragge; if nothing else, it will brighten the surface for Temple Guard, so that it doesn't have to go on as thick. To emphasize the corners or points where light hit, you can use the one from the Edge set, not sure of the name, maybe Baharroth. Or, you can always just use white.

Edit -- your pic came up after I hit post

I see... you want to layer blue. I was thinking highlight, as in, edges and such. Well, the good thing is that there are a zillion blues to achieve this with The bad thing is, that particular color, I don't think is in the GW range. It actually looks kind of like the Vallejo metallic blue gunmetal to me.

I think the closest GW color might be Stegadon Scale Green or Incubi Darkness? It's also (sort of) reminds me of the P3 color, Coal Black. None are a perfect hit for that model, though that picture isn't exactly what you want anyways, so maybe it is what you are looking for

What about something like this? :

Personally, if you want to make it easy on yourself, I would pick up some glaze medium, then just do the highlights in white/grey and glaze over them with blue until you get the effect that you're looking for.

Old Assassins used to have very blue highlights:

I'd do a very Midnight Blue colour, then a more Ultramarine blue, then a very, VERY light Ice Blue drybush over the whole thing. Whatever those are in GW names now... :-/

Edit: looking at a conversion chart, maybe Altdorf to Lothern would give a cartoony blue highlight.
