Bounding Ultramarine Assault Trooper

This is a throwback to an old thread I made where I asked if it would be cool to have flames on my Ultramarines.
Short answer: HECK YEAH
Long answer:
The colors of the fire actually contrast really well. I placed the fire imagery on the back of the jump pack vents of my Assault Squad, and also on a shoulderpad. I used a more hot-rod flame looking pattern instead of realistic fire. For the fire base, i used Mephiston Red, and for the middle orange bit, I used Joakero Orange, and for the flame tips, I used Averland Sunset.
I laid out the basic shape of the fire using the Mephiston Red, and then traced over the edge(on the inside of the red shape) with the orange. I used the Averland Sunset to outline the shape and then define the tips a little more.
Sorry about the horrible picture, I didn't have good lighting or a good camera.

I hate to be that guy but... fire works with the lightest at the core (white at the hottest, then yellow, then orange, then red) and not the other way around...
Can't really see much in the photo, though. Camera doesn't seem that bad (focused on the cloth in the background real good ) so if you work with it you should be able to milk out a pretty decent picture

I might have been going for that look. I'll test it on a spare shoulderpad going yellow-orange-red
Thanks! Automatically Appended Next Post: BTW, I snuck the order in for my Assault Squad literally 2-3 days before it changed to the "new improved" assault squad.

There we go. Here's a picture of my flames on Ultramarines experiment. For you guys, which jet pack nozzle/exhaust port thingy looks better?
Thanks,
David

Good start, but try learning to wet blend the colours, its not too hard.

I'm personally a fan of the realistic one (the right one)

I'm going for a flame effect that looks like it was an armor decal thing. Thanks for the suggestion!

I like the two tone effect personally. Makes it look more like its a Decal marking than an armour effect. I also echo the use of the right hand scheme with red at the tips.
As for the overall effect, I do really like it I think it actually looks really cool on the ultramarines. Do post some pics when you do more Although a little camera practice wouldn't go amiss, its not impossible to see, but you don't do your work any favours by giving poor pictures, there not terri-bad, but a nice clean shot will make all the difference, as currently we don't get to see the effect with the clarity and justice you do
