My group of friends and I were wondering:

Is the only way to remain Battle Forged and include a LoW to have a formation that specifically allows LoW as some sort of choice? In otherwords, you can't have a single detachment army of CAD and have a LoW and still be battleforged, right?

Some formations have a LoW.

Imperial Knight Detachments are nothing BUT Lords of War now.

With some of the "Grand HQs" being converted from HQ to Lord of War, these can be included there as well.

The Decurion Detachment carries three Choices that can have a Lord of War: the Royal Court, the Living Tomb, and the Star God, but only two of those are Formations.

So, yeah, there are a few ways to get Lords of War in your lists, but mostly it depends on the Faction as to the HOW.

For example, Baneblade Variants for the near future are limited to CAD, since they are only Lords of War for the Imperial Guard lists, and their Detachment options are quite limited, and even more so for Lord of War slots.

Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?
