Subject: Salamanders, successors or alternate colors?

I want to build an army that uses the Salamanders CT, but I don't want to do a second green army.
I've looked around but haven't found much in regards to successors or alternative schemes so I thought I'd ask here.
I kind of want to do something with brown as a main color and maybe go for a more combat appropriate look, but I'm not sure.
In fact I'm not even sold on Salamanders CT, but the fluff matches my current armies of Raven Guard and Iron Hands.

The Salamanders don't have any confirmed Successors. But the Black Dragons and Storm Giants are rumored to be sons of Vulcan. The Storm Giants' scheme is khaki in color.
I would recommend just doing a DIY Chapter and use whatever Chapter Tactic interests you. After many years my Blood Angels are turning into a Red colored Salamanders' Successor chapter. I used to view devotion to a single codex good or bad as a virtue. I was mistaken. My plan for now on is to use whatever book I feel like.

Have a stroll through Lexicanum. Several chapters are of unknown lineage; you could use one of them.

Salamanders used to have alternate camo colour scheme.
I find it much more pleasing and appropriate than their regular green.

Wow, yeah that is bloody awesome.
This makes perfect sense too from a fluff standpoint, because the Sons of Medusa ( my main army) was also at Badab, though correct me if I'm wrong, steps were taken to minimize contact between these rivals.
The reason I'm bent of Salamanders is because of the Drop Site Massacre. I got into marines and started my first army as IH successor's, then I thought well, if I'm going to collect marines I might as well collect the ones that hate each other. This way when they fight each other I can justify it. It also makes for good alliance fluff, more so than just being bro's because power armour and Emprah. I figure since the Sons got exiles from the IH and we already know they have some silly beliefs that the Sons would have dropped (cut off my leg and put robots in me!) I can safely say that they probably tried to give up blaming everyone else for Ferrous dying.
Or maybe not, maybe these three chapters only play nice when people are looking? Maybe my silly notion of the Sons of Medusa not being total dickbags is false and they really are as fethed up as those crazy IH?
Who knows? Either way I'm gonna paint me some MF badab salamanders!
Any tips?
I kinda want to prime black... Harder to cover with yellow, but I'm thinking a coat of another colour will solve that. I think maybe starting with brown could be a good starting point for yellow. I have a really rich, almost red, yellow which you can see on my Dwarfs, and on them I used red under the yellow and it gave them a really warm look. I have another, brighter yellow that I want to use as well, but its kinda thin so it needs to go on over top of an existing yellow.
I don't know, we shall see.
Thanks for finding that for me. That scheme is perfect. Exactly what I wanted! Automatically Appended Next Post: Skull with red eyes, that's perfect.
Ha!
These Sallie's are gonna look so cool!

I don't think I've ever seen a Sallies army painted in their old colors. Way back in the day, GW sold a special color black just for that scheme - "Salamander Black." It was much flatter than the old Chaos Black, which had a lot of blue in it.

Oh man I love the old Rogue Trader sallie camo, reminds me of WWII style camo patterns. Shame that it's such a pain in the ass to paint compared to the standard green/black or green/yellow colors.

They actually mention that scheme in HH: Massacre in the Salamanders fluff.
'The XVIII Legion's Power Armour had been specially-modified for the extreme conditions they were to face, and had been camouflaged in striated patterns of sulphur yellow and sable black.'
