I have a question about drones and joining units.

As far as i can gather from the codex, it's not possible to join drones to another unit if they came from a character (dead).
What about drones detaching from a vehicle. Say drones from piranhas detach. Can they join a commander in a crisis suit team? Or the other way around?

Drones don't have the IC rule so can't join units.
