I have sprues and bits coming out my ears.

Some sprues have lots of bits on, some are almost all used up.

What do you guys do with them and how do you store them?

Thanks

Strip the extras off the sprue and lash em in a big box.
The sprues themselves get binned unless I want to make fences or poles or something from them.

Yep. I take all extras Off and organize them in Plano tackle boxes. The adjustable kind. Each box is a different race, that way I always know what I'm grabbing.

Thanks guys! I'll go find a suitable box and get clipping!

I also organize mine by source sprue. That way I don't have to search through all of Chaos to find a hell blade - I just look through "Bloodletters" instead.

I mostly sort mine by body part (for marines). So if I’m looking for a left arm, I can go to that spot. It’s sub-divided by full arms, CC/ranged, just weapons, etc.

I tend to leave things on the sprue while there is still enough to build a full mini from it. Once I’ve built everyone, the spares get clipped and sorted.

In theory.

I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some bead storage boxes that old ladies use for their beads and bead-related paraphernalia.

$2 to $4, depending on size and brand.

Pretty much any hobby shop or do it yourself store will have some kind of divided storage products that you can use to sort things. Or you can go insane and drop them all into one big box.

The "bitz box" used to be the repository of all of one's bits, but if you have a lot of bits like some of us do, then you will never find what you are looking for if everything is dumped into the same box.

I recommend a bead box like the above. You can find them at a home improvement store or craft store.

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.

The clipping and organizing can be somewhat boring, but it is very worth it.

Sort them into a box intended for jewelry bits (you can get them at hobby lobby or michael's). I sort them into categories. (SM left melee arms, SM right melee arms, handless weapons, etc.) For multipart bits that go together (two arms intended for the same weapon, a heavy weapon in multiple pieces) I clip the pieces and put them in a meth baggie (sold right next to the jeweler's boxes) and keep them all in an empty Battleforce box.

If you have tons of bits you will never USE, then I throw them in a ziploc and ebay them as "assorted bits," with a measure of how much the bag weighs and a pic. They usually sell pretty fast.

Take-away tubs. We get them from the local Chinese restaurant, and most places deliver in them. Run out of tubs? Order a take-away.
Buying some X-wing models means I have lots of little zip-lock bags too.

So, types of parts get bagged up, like heads.
These go in the tubs, by kit.
Tubs are stacked by army.
Sprues are in the boxes they came in.
They all sit on the shelf above my painting table.

I play Warmahordes as well and use the plastic mini pins they come in to store the 40k extras

All of my leftover bits get clipped from the sprue and stored in a couple large organizers with small drawers. The red things on the left of this picture:

I had always intended to label the little drawers, but at this point, I sorta know where everything is anyway.

I usually use extras for terrain or objective markers. I have plenty of different army stuff so making a pile of mixed dead is always a fun one, or a pile of boltguns for an imperial weapons cache.

WAAAGH!!!
