I am offering a painting and building service. The service will be free for the first 500 models i recieve including return postage costs.

The models will be painted generally with 4 layers (base, layer, highlight and wash)

I have painted various models since 2005 and sometimes paint and build for a friend.

I have enjoyed painting the last batch of models my friend gave me and have all the materials for painting and constructing.

As any kind of commission buisness you need to prove your skill leve, be this with a set of prior work photos, a decent portfolio, reviews from trusted users and organisations etc. Without knowing what you're capable of there is no real way of building the trust needed for others to release their models into your care and have any stable kind of guarantee as to what they will be getting back.

Before thinking of advertising your service:

Work out a plan, budget your supplies, time, turn around.

Build up a portfolio, be this WIP stages or just finish products.

Photograph the above on a neutral background, preferably white, doesnt have to be expensive a sheet of A4 will do.

As was said, you'll need a portfolio to start.

Also, I find winterwind's post semi-hilarious....Though perhaps not tactful haha.

On a more serious note, I have to be honest and say this sounds like a scam to get yourself a bunch of free models, as 500 is a very large number of boxes (think about it, that's 50 tactical squad boxes). Maybe it's not a scam, but especially on the internet with some guy we don't know, anything that sounds too good to be true usually is, and you painting my entire GK army for me (plus another 10 people's small armies) for free sounds wayyyyy to good to be true.

Is this a joke thread or are you being serious? You have 87 posts, have started 8 threads and not once have you posted a picture nor uploaded an image to your gallery. Do you have a website, blog, facebook page of your work? Have you completed an army? If so to what standard and how long did it take?

I am not looking for huge amounts of money just gifts... I would like to paint more models simply, i just am a single parent anyway i am willing to 'buy' and then resell through ebay i guess.

I guess if you prefer I could buy and then sell the painted models independant of your request.

I have painted orks, ork trucks, ork converted baneblade, slaanesh daemonkin, hounds of khrone, skeletons vampire count, ghouls vampire count, grey knights for my friend.

If you play boardgames with miniatures (eg. Star Wars: Imperial Assault), paint up a set and post on BoardGameGeek. Either sell it, or trade it away.

I recommend you do some local commissions first, as no one will have that 'trust' to ship you miniatures, even if you paint the 1st 500 for free.

Once you have a gallery showing what you can do, people might be willing to do business with you. Your best bet is however contracted to a business for a short while till you built up a reputation before branching off on your own.

I think I need to layer the minatures on different heights in the photo. Should I edit the photos taken to achieve this or set up the miniatures on different heights when taking photos? I think editing would be better.

I'm not sure the photos represent the quality of painting so I would desire someone to give me some feedback on this if they would buy the item and do a review on payment possibly.

Well I guess that's all I can think of right now. Guys I really appreciate all the feedback and input and would like to serve the community on a good value to you guys.

EDIT: That means I am willing to take a request of the item you want painted and complete it at price which right now can be anything your happy at and place the item for sale on ebay for you to view and continue at your own happiness to purchase. Thanks.

I'm going to be brutally honest here. There is no way I'm giving you 30 quid for 10 boyz who are painted in a moderately amateurish way, with crappy bases; I, and basically everyone else, will only buy stuff at that level with the intention of stripping and repainting them. Painting models does not add to their value, it lowers it, so any business model that relies on re-selling anything painted short of a full army or formation is not going to work..

Your right I should probably make a bit more effort - better bases and better painting. I'll be sure to use the same paints for each layer or at least mix at the same ratios. I'll use bases that are more dramatic and exciting and I'll try to add more layers of paint to each colour to improve something - I'm not sure of the technical term.

Your right it might sound dodgy but to be honest I am just eager to work - I just want someone to tell me what exactly they want so I can serve them to a really good standard
