Hello everyone, I'm working on an all infantry regiment.
their theme is city fighting. They excel in close up tactical warfare. This regiment is really good at moving in close corridors: if they cannot get in close, they will bomb the crap out of an area with mortars, then get in close.
they make extensive use of storm troops.
the regular troops like to get stuck in, and go fast.
If there is a chaos uprising on a hive world, or an industrial world with big cities, this regiment will be the first to be called in.

I was thinking calling them the cadian 499th __________... idk
I need help with a name lol

Thanks
Austin

The 499th Thundering Stampede.

They're named after the noise that precedes them and the chaos they leave behind them.

Hmm.

Okay, combine two of these and get something:
1st word - Iron, War, Thunder, Glorious, Mighty, Crushing, Honorable, Merciless...
2nd word - Hawks, Hounds, Fists, Drakes, Tigers, Bears, Lions, Eagles...

Needs more knights, wraiths, and wolves.

But fast moving urban attack force that also doubles as a long range artillery company?

seems better off as two different companies that work together mostly.

I was originally going to name them the 499th cadian storm crows, as a MTG joke... but the name does not suit what they do.

Thanks

Here's an idea.

499th Cadian Ghost Division.

They're mostly foot infantry, their Veterans making use of Camo cloaks and moving stealthily through ruins and rubble till they pounce on an enemy force while Storm Troopers drop from the skies on Grav-Chutes to cut off lines of retreat. That's how I envision the regiment in my head. What color palette do you plan on using? Greys/black?

Do you plan on fielding them as infantry blobs with Imperial priests and Commissars attached? Will you be making use of Valkyries for close air support & to drop Veterans in the backfield?

Just curious. I hope this suggestion helps in the mean time.

Take it easy for now and I look forward to seeing your regiment grow over time.

Edit: Also, it does make sense to throw a few cheap Platoon heavy weapon squads in the back with Mortars to give you some indirect fire elements to help thin enemy infantry as you advance. You can keep the CCS or PCS nearby if you play conservative to issue them orders (Ignores cover Mortars could be fun).
I will say, were I you, I would make my Warlord a Lord Commissar and put him in one of the aforementioned infantry blobs or riding in a Valkyrie with a veteran squad so you don't have your warlord sitting out in the back, waiting to be taken down early by a drop podding/deep striking force landing in your backfield. Just offering that as an aside.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

I plan on fielding blobs to protect my weapons teams.
I then plan on having mobile infantry groups to function as an anvil, whilst I rain storm troopers to function as a hammer.

I want to pound armor with my weapons teams, and hq hunt with my storm troops, and deal with standard units with vet teams.

I like the name ghosts, my palette will be either tan or grey.. looking at afrikakorps as my inspiration

Thanks

Edited my post to make another suggestion about the HQ choice and clarification on the mortar idea.

That sounds like a fun list idea. No vehicles period, or are flyers an option?

Another spin on the Ghost idea:

499th Cadian Division "The Ghost Walkers"

499th Cadian Grey Ghosts

499th Cadian Division "The Ghost Makers"

Just some expanded ideas based on the Ghost theme.

Hope that helps! Take it easy for now.

Honorable Bears.

Glorious Eagles (murika).

Merciless Fists.

Priceless.

No vehicles whatsoever, except maybe sentinels.

I should throw out that my cluc only plays 5th edition, and I am only using the 5th ed rules.

I was thinking the cadians 499th Banshees.
Loud and powerful, yet subtle and quick.

Keeping a melta PCS near the HWTS is a good idea

Thanks
Austin

Automatically Appended Next Post:
My idea behind the no vehicles whatsoever is that they get dropped off ahead of time, to go get stuck in, grab the objectives, and win... with the exception of the stormtroopers of course.
these missions could be fast get in, get out missions where the HWTS don't even need to be deployed, or they could be months/years long Stalingrad style sieges.
They don't want vehicles. The potential maintenance for even a chimera is too much risk for these guys.
These boys get stuck in WHEREVER they go.

Thanks
Austin

I was actually thinking of changing the whole storm troop thing to penal legions, then calling them the immortals... every time a regular guardsman dies, they are immediately replaced by a white shield, or in times of desperation, a penal legionary.
Then they can really get stuck in, and just lay siege.
I might end up getting basilisks.

Thanks
