A question came to my mind as I was sculpting the chest on my Ork Warboss, "Do Orks have nipples?" Should I sculpt him some nipples or should I leave it as it is?

They do not have need for nipples, no. Orks don't breed or raise young in a mammalian sense.

However my open shirted Flash Gitz have them moulded on.

If you want to put them there, nobody would blame you.

The grow in fungal sacs and seem almost fully developed and precocial when they emerge. (running off to form feral ork societies until the main waaagh finds them)

So no.

Facetiousness aside, leaving them off entirely will give an action figure vibe, but even so, I'd suggest them painting on in a slightly darker green rather than modelling them.

Interesting (if very nerdy) to note that nothing there specifically explains the full fertilisation/reproductive cycle of orks, nor of nurture. The Rogue Trader background – of old orks wandering off into the woods to 'pup', and for the resulting Wildboyz to eventually emerge – is entirely compatible.

Not that that has anything particularly relevant to nipples, however!

I dunno. There's not much reason for orks to have nipples, because there's very little indication that they provide any parental care to new young, let alone lactate.* But if GW shows them in examples from different media ... *shrug* I guess I agree with Buttery Commissar: go with what you like.

* Ork reproduction has changed a bit since the (TBH) vague statement about 'pupping'. Since 3rd ed, IIRC, it's been the way I mentioned earlier: orks constantly shed spores the way we shed skin cells. Dead or dying orks shed a lot more of them, in one go. Spores that land in a dark, damp place (i.e. where a lot of RL fungi like to grow) grow and develop into a standard fungus, which then grows an underground sac in which one of any orkoid form (orks, grots, squigs, squiggoths, etc.) develops. (In fact, that brings up questions about the first GW pic I linked to: mushrooms and toadstools are 'just' the fruiting bodies [the reproductive parts] of RL fungi. Why does the orky fungus have them when it's already in the energy-intensive process of growing the result of reproduction?**) The young ork crawls out of the ground, small but fully developed, and gets together with any other newly emerged orks and things to form wildboy and feral ork tribes. Normally they encounter the main ork waaagh or warband, and are assimilated into full, propa orky kulta. If they don't, the tribe develops into a feral ork warband.

The butt is in the front, that's why people say they don't have dangly bits. It explains how some have a bump and some don't. They didn't go to the potty in a while.

Kidding aside it's all a matter of preference on how you do it I guess and what you like yourself.

I'd say there is no biological reason for orks to have nipples. None at all. However, I guess not every sculptor at GW actually cared to read any background on what he should be modelling, so we have some models with nipples and some without. I'd say omit them. If you want a piercing or some dangly bit attatched you can still do that just by sticking it through the skin somewhere, but nipples should not exist on orks from a logical POV.

If Orks do have nipples that leads the door open to Ork milk (you can milk anything with nipples don't you know )

Ork milk is not something I want to contemplate, or even with a bit of processing Ork cheese..............
